After a truly disappointing relief appearance by someone who we all wonder why he was pitching, the White Sox will try again to take down Boston. While Youk was greeted to a standing ovation and cheers for his base hits, the Red Sox had the last laugh and spoiled things for the former member of Red Sox Nation.
Tonight, Robin is sending out the following guys:
Alejandro De Aza CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Philip Humber will start for the White Sox. Philip is returning from the disabled list to start for the White Sox. Hopefully whatever was causing Philip to suck before his disabled list stint is gone.
Philip is making his 13th start of the season. He did win his last start on June 16 against the Los Angeles Dodgers allowing just four runs on nine hits in five innings worth of work. He also struck out four batters while walking two. Against the Red Sox, he is 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA in three career starts. The last time he faced the Red Sox in April 2012, he allowed nine runs on eight hits in five innings. This was of course after his perfect game against Seattle.
Bobby V will send out the following guys in hopes of further dampening the “homecoming” for Youk and his also the visit for his new teammates:
Jacoby Ellsbury CF, Carl Crawford LF, Daniel Nava DH, Adrian Gonzalez 1B, Will Middlebrooks 3B, Jarrod Saltalamacchia C, Ryan Sweeney RF, Mike Aviles SS, Pedro Ciriaco 2B.
Jon Lester will start for the Red Sox tonight. Of late, Jon has not been very good will be hoping to turn that around tonight. Jon ended the first half of the season with a loss against arch enemy, the New York Yankees. In that game, he allowed four earned runs, five in total on nine hits in just 4.1 innings.
In his career he is 4-3 with a 4.56 ERA in eight game starts. Tonight, he is making his second start of the season against the White Sox. The first time he saw them this season, he beat them 1-0 after pitching seven innings of five hit ball. He also struck out seven in that game.
*Notes: Gavin Floyd has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 8 with right elbow tendinitis. Philip Humber was reinstated from the disabled list. Will Middlebrooks joins Walt Dropo as the only Red Sox rookies to have as many home runs and RBI through 51 career major league games. Right now, Will is second among AL rookies in average, home runs, RBI and slugging percentage.
