SoxFest 2013 All About Chemistry So Far

So far there have been two days of SoxFest. Today was the final day and it did live up to expectations. The first couple of days there was a lot of talk of chemistry.  How well do the players get along? How well does everyone like each other. How much is everyone working toward the same goal? Is everyone pulling on the rope in the same direction? Hopefully you followed along on twitter to know what was been happening in the sessions. If not, you should have as there were lots of fun little nuggets that come up. Such as me realizing I don’t despise Tom “Wimpy” Paciorek as much as I have in the past. And Tony La Russa doesn’t seem quite as douchey as I am used to seeing him be.

As I am sure you know by now, the 1983 team is being celebrated this season, including wearing the 1983 uniform on Sunday home games. There had far been a couple of panels with some members of that team as well as other panels where members of the team talked in general. Additionally, there was a panel featuring Aaron Rowand, Joe Crede, Jermaine Dye and Paul Konerko discussing the 2005 team.

All the guys in those panels talked about how chemistry was good on those teams. Everyone got along and did things together. Aside from playing the game together, they would stretch and warm up for games together. This was instead of what is typical of infielders do stuff together and the outfielders off on their own as well as the relievers off doing something separate from the starters. On both of those teams, those separations didn’t happen. With the 2005 team, they would eat together. This despite not understanding a word that Juan Uribe said (according to Aaron.) The guys were even asked if winning comes from good chemistry or chemistry comes from winning. Aaron said it is a both.

I’ve always found the concept of chemistry mystifying. Mainly because baseball is an individual sport masquerading as a team sport. However, there is no denying that if the guys playing together like each other and are concerned about their teammates, then it does make for a much better team in addition to leading to better play which leads to winning. Perhaps the chemistry thing will make more sense to me after contemplating it for a few days now that SoxFest is over. In any event, there are some that think the 2013 team might have that special chemistry thing going. I do know I am starting to get excited about the season coming up. In the meantime, here is the video from Opening Ceremonies. In the next few days, I will have a full wrap of SoxFest up. Additionally, if you want to see pictures from the festivities, you can check out this set on Flickr for those.

  1. I really do look at all the concepts you have given to your site. They are really persuasive which enable it to unquestionably get the job done. However, your blogposts are too short for starters. Can you please expand these a little out of next occasion? Basically write-up.
