Youk To the Rescue Of Pitching Duel

Who would have thought the Sox would be involved in a pitching duel today? They were facing a lefty starter in Ricky Romero for the Blue Jays. The Sox haven’t done well against lefties. And Gavin Floyd was starting. While he has been ok of late, you just never know what you will get out of him.

Fortunately, today Mr. Consistently Inconsistent decided to be good today. This even with AJ Pierzynski catching him. Gavin was actually quite good today. Keeping the Blue Jays off base. He even had a 1-2-3 inning in the second inning. With him pitching, you just sort of expect things to not be 1-2-3, but he surprised.

Nothing was happening as far as base runners as Romero was doing a good job himself keeping the Sox off base. There were chances, but the Sox just couldn’t get that elusive big hit to score the run. That is not until fifth inning when Kevin Youkilis launched a two-run home run to center field scoring Alexei Ramirez in the process.

That would be all the scoring needed in the game and it was a good thing. The Blue Jays also had chances but they couldn’t get it done. There was some defensive prowess in the top of the ninth when Jose Bautista hit a double to left field. Apparently, Bautista thought he could scoot into third base, but there was a really nice 7-6-5 put out at third. Any hopes the Blue Jays had of a comeback were quickly squashed.

So far, the Sox have had a perfect homestand. Winning today’s game by a final of 2-0. Tomorrow they will play the final game before the break and it should be fun. GO WHITE SOX!
