Thank you Paul Konerko! The White Sox manage to squeak out a 9-8 win over the Mariners. I say squeak because headed into the ninth inning, the Sox had a 7-2 lead. They should have cruised to a win over the Mariners. But, alas that wasn’t to be.
The bullpen had a hiccup tonight, allowing the Mariners to score six runs to take an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Things weren’t exactly looking promising with Gordon Beckham leading off the inning. However, he proved people wrong by getting on. Then Dewayne Wise followed. Kevin Youkilis then singled to drive in Bacon who represented the tying run. Adam Dunn the flied out and finally, Paul Konerko came to the plate and hit a ball into the right field gap that allowed Wise to score the go-ahead winning run.
Yeah, it was a lucky game for the Sox because the allowing of six runs in the top of the ninth inning. Too bad that it had to come down to dramatics as Jake Peavy had pitched one hell of a game. And he actually got a ton of run support. Seven runs! When is the last time you remember Jake getting so much support.
Hopefully, the boys will get a good night’s rest and come back ready to go tomorrow without the dramatics.
