There were runs. There were lots and lots of runs. And the White Sox scored them all, beating the Indians 11-0.

Hector Santiago’s last start was Wednesday against the Indians. As you may recall, it was just awful, and the Sox lost not only the game but first place that night. Santiago attempted to redeem himself tonight, and he was absolutely brilliant. He pitched seven solid innings, giving up one walk and one hit while striking out ten. Yes, I did say ten. That’s a career high for Santiago.

The seventh strikeout Santiago threw tied the franchise record for strikeouts by a pitching staff which was set last season. His eighth set the franchise record with 1,221 strikeouts. With two games left this season, that number will grow.

Jesse Crain relieved Santiago in the eighth. He pitched a perfect inning, including a strikeout. Leyson Septimo pitched the ninth. After getting Vinny Rottino to ground out, he hit Thomas Neal. Cord Phelps pinch hit for Jason Kipnis and singled to left. Brent Lillibridge pinch hit for Asdrubal Cabrera and struck out looking. Septimo got Carlos Santana to fly out to end the game.

During the broadcast, Hawk said the Sox averaged something like 2.6 runs per game in their last 13. They went 3-10 in those games, and as we all know, it was the worst time to slump. Tonight, the Sox decided to score a zillion runs tonight because why not?

Dewayne Wise, Adam Dunn, Paul Konerko, Alex Rios, AJ Pierzynski, and Dayan Viciedo each picked up two hits tonight. Kevin Youkilis, Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham each picked up one. Yes, you read that right. Every starter had at least one hit! Look at that awesomeness! Where was that last week when we needed it?

There were RBI galore tonight. Viciedo had five, four of which came off a grand slam in the ninth. Dunn picked up two, and Konerko, Rios, Pierzynski, and Ramirez each picked up one. Look at all those runs! We found the ones that were clearly missing in the last 13 games. Dunn, Konerko, Pierzynski and Viciedo each also picked up a walk.

There were a couple other career milestones to note tonight for the Sox. Dayan Viciedo’s grand slam in the ninth was his first career grand slam. AJ Pierzynski’s RBI single off Joe Smith in the sixth inning was his 77th of the season, which ties his career high.

The Tigers are finishing the season in Kansas City. They need one win to clinch the Central, and at the time of publication (9:30 p.m.), they will do so tonight. They are currently beating the Royals 6-2 in the middle of the eighth inning.

According to Mark Gonzales’ Twitter, Jake Peavy said prior to tonight’s game that he’ll pitch tomorrow night “no matter what happens Monday night.” So he’ll face off against Justin Masterson. His last start was Wednesday where he picked up a no-decision after giving up four runs in 4.2 innings to the Sox.
