Perhaps there isn’t want for a division title. The Sox are returning home for the final home stand of the season. This after crapping the bed in Anaheim over the weekend. First up will be the Indians. Here is what you need to know for the last time seeing the Indians at home in 2012:

2012 Record: White Sox 81-71, 1st in AL Central. Indians 63-90, 5th in AL Central

2012 Season Series Record: 8-4

All-Time Series Record: 1,043-997 (The Sox are 550-466 at home against the Indians)

Chris Sale: 17-7, 2.82 ERA, 181K vs. Zach McAllister: 5-8, 4.31 ERA, 101K

Francisco Liriano: 6-11, 5.24 ERA, 163K vs. Corey Kluber: 1-4, 5.36 ERA, 44K

Jake Peavy: 11-12, 3.40 ERA, 180K vs. Justin Masterson: 11-15, 4.97 ERA, 152K

Monday’s game begins at 7:10 pm, Tuesday’s game is at 1:10 pm and the finale on Wednesday begins at 7:10 pm. All times CDT.

More and more the play of the Sox of late is screaming the team wants an early vacation starting next week. The Magic number is down to 10 games. This, of course, though no work on the Sox part. No, instead they are seemingly content on letting whoever the Tigers play take care of them for them. But really, that is not a good recipe. This is going to be a stressful last few days of the season. Many fans are being reminded of how the team finished in 2005 when they had a very large lead that they let dwindle to roughly what it is right now. However, it is hard to say whether the outcome will be the same with the Sox taking the division.

Although Detroit just can’t pick up the ball, they seem to be able to hit the ball with no trouble. They  can even win games without  having to have a home run to win. The Sox? Not so much. They are inching closer and closer to having at least 50% of their wins this season occur when there was a home run hit. Statistically speaking, the Sox should win the division. But they sure are making it difficult on themselves of late.

The Indians on the other hand have plenty to prove right now. They have a lot of young guys who are playing out the string. And not just to get to their winter vacations faster. No, many of these guys are looking to make a strong impression heading into spring training for 2013. They haven’t fared well against the Sox this season and on top of that, they have lost five in a row against the Sox. And of course they would really like to show they can beat the Sox in the last six meetings they will have with them starting this week.

Who’s Hot: Chris Sale has gone 8-0 with a 1.20 ERA in his last nine games at home. Carlos  Santana hit .429 with two homer runs and seven RBIs this past weekend against the PITA Royals. Who’s Not: The Sox are on a five-game losing streak as well as having scored three runs or less in six consecutive games. The Indians have lost 11 of their last 15 games.
