Blackhawks Night 2012

It was a nice cool night. At least cool for August. Unlike last year around this time, things were not conspiring to make me crave hockey. No, this year, there is labor uncertainty as the CBA is currently being negotiated and whether there is going to be a season is in doubt. » Continue reading “Blackhawks Night 2012″

How Sweep It Is!

What do August 6-8, 1991 and August 20-22, 2012 have in common?

The White Sox swept the Yankees in three games in Chicago in both of those series. The 1991 series was actually the last time the Sox had a three-game sweep of the Yankees in Chicago. Tonight was a 2-1 win, and Chris Sale led the way in his first start against the Yankees. » Continue reading “How Sweep It Is!”

Oh Em Gee They Done Done It! White Sox Win Season Series Against Yanks

With the 7-3 win tonight, the White Sox have done something they haven’t done since 2003: they won a season series against the Yankees. This season, the two played each other seven times. When the series began, it was tied two wins for each team. Tonight, the Sox won their second game in a row meaning they have four wins in the season series. In other words:  SERIES WIN!

This is big news folks. Even in looking at the all-time series record, the Yankees have walloped the Sox. Tonight, the tables were turned and the Sox did a little beating of their own.  » Continue reading “Oh Em Gee They Done Done It! White Sox Win Season Series Against Yanks”

Let’s Do Two! White Sox V Yankees August 21, 2012

66-55 this season

So last night was. . . interesting. What started out as a game that you might have been ready to give up on, it ended with a victory and a wider lead in the AL Central. Tonight, the Sox will try to make it two in a row over the  Yankees. To that end, Robin is sending out the following guys in hopes of something good, REAL good:

Dewayne Wise CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.

Francisco Liriano will start for the White Sox and is trying to pick up his fifth win on the season. It would be his second win as a member of the Pale Hose.

Fans and management will be hoping tonight that Francisco has a great night and a lot of economical pitching tonight. After yanking the starter in the third inning for being bad, the bullpen got some work. Even though there is an off day coming up, the Sox really can’t afford to keep overworking those guys. It’s on Liriano tonight to give them a break.  » Continue reading “Let’s Do Two! White Sox V Yankees August 21, 2012″

Bad Gavin Strikes Again, But Homers Save Sox

Oh sweet victory, how I have missed you lately! It’s always a happy day in my book when the White Sox beat the Yankees, and tonight was no different, as the Sox picked up the 9-6 win.

Gavin Floyd was the starter tonight, and just like basically every other game Gavin ever starts, I was left wondering whether we’d see Good Gavin or Bad Gavin. And boy did we see Bad Gavin. He left the game in the third with a really gross-looking line: three runs on five hits and four walks in 2.1 innings pitched. Not pretty, Gavin. Sooooo not pretty. He also hit Raul Ibanez, so Gavin recorded seven outs and allowed ten batters to reach base.

Robin pulled him in favor of Hector Santiago who pitched three innings. He didn’t have a much better line, as he gave up three runs on four hits and three walks. He had two wild pitches as well, so it was a bit of an experience watching these first two pitchers. » Continue reading “Bad Gavin Strikes Again, But Homers Save Sox”

Adventures In Gavinland: White Sox V Yankees August 20, 2012

65-55 this season

It’s that time again! The boys are home for a seven-day, six-game homestand and what better way to start it off than against the New York Yankees with a trip to Gavinland? Yes, everyone’s favorite consistently inconsistent starter will set the tone for the upcoming series.

After a miserable time in the middle of the USA, Robin is sending out the following guys to get back on track:

Dewayne Wise CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.

Mr. Consistently Inconsistent will start tonight for the Sox. Dare I say it, but Gavin was actually pretty good in his last start. It was quite the departure from his usual first inning crushing of fans’ hopes early on.

At home lately, Gavin has been pretty good at home. He is 3-0 with a 2.78 ERA in his last five starts at home. Slightly hard to believe given how he is so frustrating at times when he pitches. „

In his last start against Toronto, Gavin allowed just four runs, three of which were earned on eight hits over six innings. He struck out eight and more importantly DID NOT ISSUE A WALK! That was the first time he had done that in a game since June 26 at Minnesota.
