Today was a busy day for Rick Hahn in terms of speaking with fans. In addition to that, he also spoke to bloggers. Needless to say, I was quite excited when I heard there would be a chance to ask him questions now that he is “the man” in charge over at the White Sox.

As you know, I am a season ticket holder and this season the Sox have been having calls with various people on the Sox. Past guests have included pitching coach Don Copper and former GM Ken Williams. These calls have always been interesting because fans get to ask the questions. Sometimes, I think that fans really try to ask the stuff that the media won’t. And other times, they ask some stuff that I am left scratching my head about.

In any event, today’s questions were pretty good and of course touched upon the burning issues that Sox fans have at the moment. Namely, AJ and Kevin Youkilis. This afternoon, White Sox sales and marketing VP Brooks Boyer held a conference call with some White Sox bloggers. Boyer briefly addressed the announcement last week that the Sox were lowering season ticket prices. He said it was the first step toward many announcements this offseason.

The White Sox want to connect with fans, Boyer said. They created a great atmosphere, and the Sox want an even better atmosphere next season. He said the Sox want to reconnect with fans whose circumstances have changed over the past few seasons while also creating new fans by getting more kids to come to the games. » Continue reading “Conference Call with Brooks Boyer”

This afternoon, the White Sox held a conference call for season ticket holders with new bench coach Mark Parent and senior VP of sales and marketing, Brooks Boyer. Cheryl is a season ticket holder, but since she was unable to attend, I had the honor of listening in.

Before I get into the actual conference call and the questions asked by season ticket holders, let me say that I think if every franchise is not already doing this, they should. A lot of media members can’t or won’t ask the questions that fans have. As a journalism major, I have learned that I can’t ask questions of athletes that come from my heart. I would never be able to get and/or keep a job that way. So as a fan, it’s a great way to get your questions heard and a great way to get them answered.

And if you have a site like this one where at least one writer is a season ticket holder, all non-season ticket holders get a chance to hear from the coaches and front office too.

Yesterday was day two of SoxFest. It was another fun day. There were moments of testiness as well as some questions that were asked that left me scratching my head. Below are the tweets of the day. There are a couple of gaps. For the first time ever, I ended up in Twitter Jail for tweeting too much in an hour. Fortunately, it only lasted for an hour. If it had gone longer, I am not sure what I would have done. Maybe create an account just for the jail time. In any event, enjoy. I will bring you day three today as well on twitter. Buddy answering questions at Blog Night

Tuesday night, the Chicago White Sox hosted their sixth annual Blog Night. It is a chance for fans to chat with some key people in the Sox organization as well as interact with each other. Somehow, I have missed hearing about the previous Blog Nights, but I made sure to go this year. Guest speakers were Buddy Bell, Brooks Boyer and Ron Kittle. Below is a summary of what was talked about. Scott Reifert acted as emcee for the event and it was a lot of fun to participate in.

Most of the discussions were answering questions from us fans rather than any prepared speeches about things and then answer questions. Scott Reifert got thing going by filling us in on some upcoming things at the park. There will be another social media night, like the tweet up earlier in the season. This one will have some giveaways involved before the event for things that wil happen at the event.

As for other events, Mayor Daley will be honored on August 3rd. Aside from the President, he is probably the most famous White Sox fan. Moose Skowran was supposed to attend the night, but he wasn’t feeling well. He is toward the end of his treatment, but overall is doing very well.

Roland Hemond, who was recently awarded the Buck O’Neil award will be able to receive congratulatory messages from fans. There will be a table set up soon (if not already) at the park near the White Sox Charities that you can write messages to him. They are looking into doing something similar for fans who’d like to send well wishes to Moose as well.
