Playing It Out? Maybe. Series Preview: White Sox @ Indians

How fitting that the White Sox end the 2012 season in Cleveland. Given how the Sox played the Indians all season, it is conceivable for a sweep. Then again, after last week’s games, it could be bad. Here is what you need to know about the final series for the 2012 regular season:

2012 Record: White Sox 83-76, 2nd in AL Central. Indians 67-92, 4th in AL Central.

2012 Season Series: 9-6

All-Time Series Record: 1,044-999 (The Sox are 488-527 at Cleveland)

The following pitchers are expected to start the three games:

Hector Santiago: 3-1, 3.69 ERA, 69K vs. Corey Kluber: 2-4, 5.02 ERA, 48K

Jake Peavy: 11-12, 3.37 ERA, 186K vs. Justin Masterson: 11-15, 5.03 ERA, 154K

Gavin Floyd: 11-11, 4.47 ERA, 138K vs. David Huff: 3-0, 2.86 ERA, 17K

All three games begin at 6:05 pm CDT. Wednesday’s game is the free MLB.com game of the day.  » Continue reading “Playing It Out? Maybe. Series Preview: White Sox @ Indians”

South Side Hits: November 14, 2011 White Sox Links

I hope you have been enjoying these wonderful temps we’ve been having the past few days. I know I have tried to enjoy them. Doesn’t help that they remind me of baseball season, but  at least I can look forward to spring training approaching really soon.

There is still not a ton happening in White Sox land. In some ways, this is a good thing. In others, it really is annoying since it would be nice to know what this team will look like for 2012. That is probably the fun part of the off season, but sometimes I really hate to wait for news. Anyway, here are some stories you might have missed with the gorgeous weather this past weekend:

Former Sox manger Gene Lamont is up for a managerial job. He is currently the third base coach for the Tigers.

The Sun Times has an article on Robin Ventura bringing legitimacy to his new job.

Seems not spending tons of $$ is paying off for the Royals and Indians» Continue reading “South Side Hits: November 14, 2011 White Sox Links”

South Side Hits: October 5, 2011

Well, well well. The Rangers are one step away from getting back to the World Series as they finished off the Rays this afternoon. They are the first of the final four. The other teams are still battling it out. Meanwhile, members of our Chicago White Sox sit at home. Perhaps they are watching (at least we know AJ Pierzynski is watching) or maybe they’ve tried to block it out by enjoying some NFL and college football. Now for some news and stories you might have missed.

Is The Carlos Quentin soon to be on the block? Maybe.

A nice article on one of my favorite players, Mark Buehrle.

While for most of us it seems Chris Sale to the rotation seems a foregone conclusion, Don Cooper says not so fast.

Another possible landing spot for Rick Hahn? And no, it’s not on the north side of Chicago. » Continue reading “South Side Hits: October 5, 2011″

Dear Ken

Ken,

Can I call you Kenny? I feel after 11 years, we should be on such a casual basis. You see, for most of that time, I have trusted what you have done with my beloved White Sox. Usually I didn’t question things and thought, well, you must know what is best. You are after all the general manager of the team. You played the game. You have the business acumen to make this all work.

Then, in recent years, you’ve started doing some things that have made me scratch my head. You made some questionable trades. You made some questionable waiver-claims. And of course, who can forget about your drama with your former manager.

I know, I know he wasn’t “your” guy, but still. Now half the fan base is happy because the guy who wasn’t your guy is gone. He’s moved on to to Florida and you have a chance to get your guy in.

I’m glad you appear to not be interested in some potential candidates out there like Tony La Russa. However, there are reports that Terry Francona may be available soon.  Might I suggest if this becomes reality, you pick up that phone asap and do whatever it takes to get Tito to Chicago? » Continue reading “Dear Ken”

Well . . .

Ozzie is gone. He posted on his blog last night that he was going to Florida, but it was taken down. Of course, there are many things to think about with his departure.

First, we know that Joey Cora will be managing the final two games of the season. I like Joey and given that it is the last couple of games, it almost seems a moot point. I feel certain that Joey is not on the short list of candidates that Ken Williams had mentioned last night in the post-game press conference. So the question is who will be the manager? » Continue reading “Well . . .”
