The White Sox were looking for a sweep tonight, and unfortunately it just didn’t happen. Our Sox sent Hector Santiago to the mound while the Red Sox countered with Clay Buchholz. The game went to the Red Sox as they beat our Sox 6-2.
Santiago was playing for a spot in the rotation tonight as John Danks is expected to return this weekend. Santiago pitched six innings tonight and gave up just two runs on three hits and four walks. He also struck out nine. Unfortunately he picked up the loss since the bullpen gave up four runs after Santiago was pulled. This outing may have kicked him out of the rotation, and it wasn’t entirely his fault. » Continue reading “White Sox Can’t Score Runs, Drop Finale to Red Sox”

The Red Sox have come to town, and the White Sox got this series off to a good start after beating the Red Sox 6-4 Monday night. Jose Quintana faced off against Felix Doubront tonight, and the White Sox luckily came out on top. It was a low scoring affair, but Quintana had a spectacular performance. » Continue reading “Quintana Flirts with No-No as White Sox Beat Red Sox”

A meeting of the Sox is to happen this week to start the homestand off. Red against White. Right versus Wrong. Which description fits the White Sox at this point is hard to say. Are they right or terribly wrong? The answer may depend on when you are looking at the White Sox and how you personally feel about them. For now, here is what you need to know for this upcoming series:
2013 Record: White Sox 19-23, 4th in AL Central. Red Sox 27-17, 2nd in AL East
2013 Season Series: 0-0
2012 Season Series: 2-6

The following pitchers are expected to start this series:
Dylan Axelrod: 1-3, 4.27 ERA, 26K vs. Jon Lester: 6-0, 2.72 ERA, 50K

Well, that sucked. The road trip that is. Swept by the biggest division rival. Losing heartbreaking games that there was a chance to win in Boston. At least there was a series win against the Royals? I wish I could say it didn’t matter, but I prefer not to lie. The Sox will however be home for a brief three-game series against the Twins starting tonight. Here is what you need to know for those games:
2012 Record: White Sox 50-45, 2nd in AL Central. Twins 40-55, 5th in AL Central
2012 Series Record: 4-2
All-Time Series Record: 373-417 (The Sox are 203-193 at home against the Twins)
The following pitchers are expected to in the three games:
Gavin Floyd: 7-8, 4.54 ERA, 91K vs. Francisco Liriano: 3-9, 4.81 ERA, 107K
Jose Quintana: 4-1, 2.30 ERA, 43K vs. Cole De Vries: 2-2, 3.95 ERA, 29K
Jake Peavy: 7-7, 3.22 ERA, 120K vs. Nick Blackburn: 4-5, 7.46 ERA, 32K
Monday and Tuesday’s games begin at 7:10 pm. Wednesday’s game starts at 1:10 pm and is also the MLB.com free game of the day All times CDT. » Continue reading “New Reality: Series Preview White Sox V Twins”

The White Sox looked to close out their series with the Red Sox with a split. They were well on their way to doing that behind the stellar pitching of Jose Quintana, but that all went to waste in the ninth inning, as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 3-1.
Quintana was spectacular tonight. He pitched eight solid innings, giving up just five hits. He had excellent control and was dominating the Red Sox hitters. But by the ninth inning, things happened. Matt Thornton gave up two hits as his defense let him down a bit. He pitched a third of an inning before being replaced by Addison Reed. He threw three pitches to Cody Ross, and the third was a three-run walk off home run. Another stellar Quintana start wasted. » Continue reading “Ross Causes a White Sox Loss”

50-41 this season
That is what the White Sox will try to do tonight. It won’t be easy though given how the Red Sox are starting to get healthy and get key players back. Tonight, Dustin Pedroia returns to the lineup.
Tonight, Robin is sending out the following guys to get a split:
Alejandro De Aza CF, The Cuban Missile SS, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, Bacon 2B, Eduardo Escobar 3B.
Jose Quintana will start for the White Sox tonight. Quintana is hoping to get his fifth win of the season. He also is getting into uncharted territory since his innings pitched this season, both in minors and majors is quickly approaching more than he has done in the past. This if he hasn’t already surpassed that number.
He has never faced the Red Sox, but he did watch the team as a teenager when fellow Colombians Orlando Cabrera and Edgar Renteria played for the Red Sox. Quintana is pretty excited about pitching at Fenway since a lot of Colombians are Red Sox fans. » Continue reading “Splits? White Sox @ Red Sox July 19, 2012″

The White Sox had another ugly loss tonight to the Red Sox. Unlike Monday’s loss, starting pitching was abysmal from the start, as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 10-1.
Pedro Hernandez made his Major League debut tonight. He was called up to fill in for Gavin Floyd who is on the disabled list. Hernandez is the 10th starting pitcher for the White Sox this season and also the 10th rookie pitcher to be on the active roster. Unfortunately, his first ever start was not one to remember. Hernandez lasted just four innings, giving up eight runs on 12 hits and a walk. He gave up three home runs in those innings: two three-run home runs from Cody Ross and a solo shot from Adrian Gonzalez. » Continue reading “Pedro Hernandez and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Debut”

Bobby V decided not to walk a guy who had been hitting well in the series. And he paid for it when Youk hit a three-run bomb. Oh how much fun to see. Big Donkey also had a stolen base in the game. Now, let’s hope this goodness continues.
Tonight, Robin is sending out the following guys
Alejandro De Aza CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Pedro Hernandez will start for the White Sox. Hernandez was acquired from the San Diego Padres. He is making his major league debut tonight. Just yet another White Sox player making his debut this season. » Continue reading “Bad Decisions: White Sox @ Red Sox Jul 18, 2012″

Yeah, so Philip Humber didn’t suck tonight. Given the way he had pitched before landing on the disabled list in June, he wasn’t inspiring much much faith that he wouldn’t be bad again tonight. And after his teammates gave him a two run lead to work with in the top of the first inning, Philip apparently couldn’t shut the Red Sox down. So the second inning began as though the game hadn’t started yet.
Luckily, Philip settled down and the White Sox added more runs to go ahead by a score of 6-2. Philip lasted for six innings and then Brian Omogrosso came in the game to relieve him. It was nice to see Philip had settled down and giving the team some strong innings. Omogrosso didn’t give up any runs in his inning of work. Matt Thornton came in and he ended up giving up three runs. That brought the Red Sox within two runs as the score was 7-5 heading to the ninth inning. » Continue reading “Surprisingly, No Suck As White Sox Best Red Sox”

49-40 this season
After a truly disappointing relief appearance by someone who we all wonder why he was pitching, the White Sox will try again to take down Boston. While Youk was greeted to a standing ovation and cheers for his base hits, the Red Sox had the last laugh and spoiled things for the former member of Red Sox Nation.
Tonight, Robin is sending out the following guys:
Alejandro De Aza CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Philip Humber will start for the White Sox. Philip is returning from the disabled list to start for the White Sox. Hopefully whatever was causing Philip to suck before his disabled list stint is gone.
Philip is making his 13th start of the season. He did win his last start on June 16 against the Los Angeles Dodgers allowing just four runs on nine hits in five innings worth of work. He also struck out four batters while walking two. Against the Red Sox, he is 1-2 with an 8.83 ERA in three career starts. The last time he faced the Red Sox in April 2012, he allowed nine runs on eight hits in five innings. This was of course after his perfect game against Seattle. » Continue reading “Spoiled: White Sox @ Red Sox July 17, 2012″
