But it could have been worse.
The White Sox looked to keep their distance from the Tigers, but it was not meant to be. The Sox lost 8-6 and now have only a one-game lead on Detroit.
Gavin Floyd returned from the disabled list tonight and started off well. He ran into some trouble in the fifth inning. He gave up a hit and a walk to lead off the inning. He was responsible for all three runs scored in the inning, and that put the Tigers up 3-1. » Continue reading “Well Then…That Sucked”

Unless you are bragging about how amazing the Sox have been (save the beating by the PITAs), then stop talking. Don’t tell us about what the Yankees are doing. If you do, all Sox fans will here is “blah blah blah”! Everyone knows the Yankees are on top in the east. In fact, at this point in the season, it is pretty much expected. However, they are now in Chicago to take on the White Sox in yet again, a critical series for the Sox. Here is what you should know for the next few days:
2012 Record: White Sox 65-55, 1st in AL Central. Yankees 72-49, 1st in AL East
2012 Series Record: 2-2
All-Time series Record: 804-1,043 (the Sox are 437-487 at home against the Yankees)
The following pitchers are expected to start the three games:
Gavin Floyd: 9-9, 4.43 ERA, 112K vs. Freddy Garcia: 7-5, 4.68 ERA, 64K
Francisco Liriano: 4-10, 5.22 ERA, 132K vs. Ivan Nova: 11-6, 4.76 ERA, 136K
Chris Sale: 14-4, 2.72 ERA, 137K vs. Phil Hughes: 12-10, 4.23 ERA, 120K
All three games begin at 7:10 pm CDT. » Continue reading “Stop Spreading The News! Series Preview: White Sox V Yankees”

The White Sox had another ugly loss tonight to the Red Sox. Unlike Monday’s loss, starting pitching was abysmal from the start, as the Red Sox beat the White Sox 10-1.
Pedro Hernandez made his Major League debut tonight. He was called up to fill in for Gavin Floyd who is on the disabled list. Hernandez is the 10th starting pitcher for the White Sox this season and also the 10th rookie pitcher to be on the active roster. Unfortunately, his first ever start was not one to remember. Hernandez lasted just four innings, giving up eight runs on 12 hits and a walk. He gave up three home runs in those innings: two three-run home runs from Cody Ross and a solo shot from Adrian Gonzalez. » Continue reading “Pedro Hernandez and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Debut”

Interleague plague is over. Fittingly, the White Sox go back to “normal” play by facing a division rival, the Minnesota Twins. Here is what to know as the White Sox embark on a seven-game, seven-day road trip:

The following pitchers are expected to start in the three games:
Jake Peavy: 6-3, 2.74 ERA, 83K v. Francisco Liriano: 1-7, 5.74 ERA, 65K

YAY!
They waited until the last game, but the Sox finally beat the Cubs in this three-game series by a score of 7-0. And they looked good doing it.
Gavin Floyd had one of his good games today. He went 6.1 innings and only gave up four hits and a walk. He struck out four batters as well and dropped his ERA to 5.20 while picking up his fifth win. Of the 108 pitches he threw, 72 were for strikes. His good outing was just the kind of pick-me-up the Sox probably needed. » Continue reading “Put Those Brooms Away, North Siders”

Jake talking to an old teammate. Wonder if he is complaining about run support or lack thereof
The important stuff after last night’s loss. Jake Peavy pitched a complete game. He looked quite good and just had two mistakes. One wild pitch and another that let a base runner get on.
This of course spiraled out of control that led to two runs being scored. Only one of those runs being earned as O-Dog made an absolutely terrible throw in the third inning to allow Geovanny Soto to reach base.
David De Jesus got his first career hit off Dirt Bag as well as two RBIs. Before all this happend, the Sox were up 1-0 over the Cubs on a ground-rule double hit by The Cuban Missile that drove in Alex Rios.
The score would stay 2-1 and the Sox would lose the game and yet ANOTHER series in intereleague play. Oh, and the Indians are now in first place thanks to beating the Reds. » Continue reading “So Long First Place”

It was another one of those Gavin Floyd starts again, as the White Sox lost the series finale against the Cardinals, 5-3.
Floyd lasted 4.2 innings, and he didn’t pitch well. He gave up five runs on eight hits and four walks. He did strike out five, but he gave up a two-run home run to David Freese. The bullpen came out and pitched the remaining 3.1 innings practically flawlessly. Will Ohman finished out the fifth, Zach Stewart pitched a perfect sixth, Jesse Crain only issued a walk in the seventh, and Matt Thornton only gave up a hit in the eighth. » Continue reading “Floyd Tarred and Feathered”

Wednesday night, the White Sox hoped to follow their great performance on Tuesday with another win. However, this was not the case, as the Cardinals beat the White Sox, 1-0.
Jake Peavy pitched incredibly well. He pitched seven innings and only allowed one run. However, that run was all it took for the Cardinals to pull out the win. Peavy only allowed four hits and two walks while striking out six. Nate Jones pitched a perfect eighth and struck out one. » Continue reading “Peavy Was Good, But Lynn Was Better”

The Canadian baseball team is headed to town. I will get to hear “Oh, Canada” before games, which is a GREAT national anthem. And I will probably also hear chants of USA! USA! USA!
Won’t lie. Thanks to 2008, I usually recoil when I hear people do that (for reasons I can explain to you another day) but not because I am anti-american. In any event, the series should be fun and here is what you should know for the next few games:
2012 Season Record: White Sox 31-23, 1st in AL Central. Blue Jays 28-26, 4th in AL East
2012 Season Series: 0-0
2011 Series Record: 3-4
All-Time Series Record: 163-187 (The Sox are 88-84 at home against the Blue Jays)
The following pitchers are expected to pitch in the three games:
Philip Humber: 2-2, 5.37 ERA, 47K v. Ricky Romero: 6-1, 4.04 ERA, 56K
TBD: v. Brandon Morrow: 6-3, 3.28 ERA, 62K
Jake Peavy: 6-1, 3.05 ERA, 68K v. Henderson Alvarez: 3-5, 3.75 ERA, 21K
All three games start at 7:10 pm CDT. » Continue reading “Potential Jingoism. Series Preview: White Sox v Blue Jays”
