The White Sox were looking for a sweep tonight, and unfortunately it just didn’t happen. Our Sox sent Hector Santiago to the mound while the Red Sox countered with Clay Buchholz. The game went to the Red Sox as they beat our Sox 6-2.
Santiago was playing for a spot in the rotation tonight as John Danks is expected to return this weekend. Santiago pitched six innings tonight and gave up just two runs on three hits and four walks. He also struck out nine. Unfortunately he picked up the loss since the bullpen gave up four runs after Santiago was pulled. This outing may have kicked him out of the rotation, and it wasn’t entirely his fault. » Continue reading “White Sox Can’t Score Runs, Drop Finale to Red Sox”

Another win! And Dylan Axelrod got his first win of the season! Three cheers all around! Yes, you read that correctly. The Sox beat the Twins 9-4 this afternoon and took the series. Behind some relatively solid pitching and three spectacular home runs, the Sox put on a show. » Continue reading “Adam Dunn and Home Runs Lead White Sox to Victory”

Tonight was not the night for the White Sox. For the first time ever, the Sox faced the Mets in New York, and it was not a pretty sight. The Sox sent Hector Santiago to the mound to face Matt Harvey, and it was definitely a pitchers’ duel. The Sox ended up losing 1-0 in ten innings.
On any normal night, Santiago would have probably pitched a winner. He went seven solid innings, giving up four hits and two walks. No runs, just seven baserunners, as he also hit one batter. He struck out eight. EIGHT! But tonight it wasn’t enough for a win. Matt Lindstrom pitched a perfect eighth, but Nate Jones picked up the loss in the tenth. Jones pitched the ninth and one out in the tenth, giving up the lone run in the game.
Unfortunately for Santiago, he had no run support. Mainly because the Sox had no answer for Harvey. None. Zero. Zip. Harvey pitched nine innings. He struck out 12 batters. TWELVE. He didn’t walk a batter. But he also gave up just one hit. Alex Rios broke up Harvey’s perfect game in the seventh with a single. Bobby Parnell came on for the tenth, and he didn’t allow a hit or a walk either. Rios was the saving grace for the Sox tonight.
Of the starters, Jeff Keppinger was the only one who didn’t strike out tonight. Alejandro De Aza had three strikeouts in four at-bats. Rios had two, Adam Dunn had two, and Conor Gillaspie had two. Even Jordan Danks, who pinch hit for Lindstrom in the ninth, struck out.
This performance tonight was bad. The highlight for the Sox was that Santiago looked great. It looks like he’ll do well as a starter now that Gavin Floyd is out for the season. If he keeps this performance up, he’ll likely be ahead of Dylan Axelrod for a rotation spot when John Danks comes back.
The Sox end this short series with the Mets tomorrow night. Jake Peavy will finally be back on the mound. He was experiencing back spasms, but he felt good after a bullpen session on Monday. He’ll be facing Jeremy Hefner who had a great start unravel his last time out against the Marlins. He basically dominated the Marlins’ lineup but picked up the loss after some shaky pitching in the ninth and a blown save by Brandon Lyon.

My general tears had to wait at least one more night, as AJ Pierzynski was not in the Rangers’ lineup tonight. No, I’m still not over it, but I’m working on it. The Sox traveled to Texas for a three-game series with the Rangers, and it didn’t start well. The Sox lost, 10-6.
Pitching was once again awful. Jose Quintana didn’t have a bad start. He lasted five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out two, but he also allowed back-to-back home runs to Nelson Cruz and Jeff Baker. Matt Lindstrom came on and pitched a third of an inning. He picked up the loss, as he allowed one run on a walk. » Continue reading “Pitching Fails as White Sox Fall to Rangers”

The Sox were rained out again Tuesday night, so they finished a shortened series this afternoon. Jose Quintana took to the mound and had a good start, picking up the win as the Sox beat the Indians 3-2. » Continue reading “Alex Rios Powers White Sox to Win”

sometimes, I’m not sure this team is better than this . . .
At first, things were looking somewhat promising for a White Sox winner. Early on, the game was tied and then the Sox managed to take a 2-1 lead on Hector Gimenez’s first double. Gimenez was actually having a pretty good night. Unfortunately, he got hit by a pitch in the seventh inning and ended up leaving the game.
At that point, the Sox still were up by one on the Indians. And then the eighth inning came along with a new battery of Matt Thornton and Tyler Flowers. And the defense just went to crap. Some hits were given up, a terrible pick-off throw attempt and the next thing you know, the Sox are now trailing 3-2. » Continue reading “Almost But No As White Sox Lose To Indians”

The Sox came home for a ten-game homestand, and they didn’t get off to the greatest start. Friday night’s game was postponed due to the weather, and Saturday afternoon’s game didn’t quite go their way, as they lost to the Twins 2-1 in ten innings.
Pitching had a little bit of a rough day today. Jake Peavy started for the Sox, and he had a great outing. He lasted seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and four walks. He also struck out nine. » Continue reading “Peavy’s Good Start Wasted as White Sox Lose in Extras”

Baseball is a game where anything can happen on the field and off the field. Tonight was no exception, as the start of the game was delayed by 15 minutes. Many games in the Midwest were delayed due to bad weather, but that wasn’t the case in Washington. No, the Sox-Nationals game was delayed because the umpiring crew was stuck in traffic. Yes, you read that correctly. » Continue reading “White Sox Can’t Figure Out Nationals Pitching”

Travelling to Washington for the beginning of their first road trip of the season, the White Sox started interleague play early in the season since the Houston Astros are now a member of the AL West. Jake Peavy faced off against former Sox pitcher Gio Gonzalez, and it was a hard-fought battle, ending in a Sox loss.
The Sox got on the board quickly in the first inning after Gonzalez had a shaky start. After striking out Alejandro De Aza to lead off the inning, Gonzalez gave up back-to-back singles to Jeff Keppinger, who broke an 0-for-19 streak, and Alex Rios. During Alexei Ramirez’s at-bat, Gonzalez balked, allowing Keppinger to score before Ramirez flew out to end the inning. » Continue reading “White Sox Lose to Nationals After Allowing Four Homers”

After dropping the series opener, the Sox looked to get back to their winning ways. The Sox pitted Dylan Axelrod against a dominating pitcher: Felix Hernandez. In the end, the Sox pulled out a 4-3 winner.
Axelrod had a pretty good day Saturday. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks. The error from Jeff Keppinger in the second allowed Raul Ibanez to cross home. When Axelrod left the game, the Sox were tied at one with the Mariners, thus denying him the win. Donnie Veal came on to pitch a perfect inning with two strikeouts. He picked up the win, as the Sox scored two runs in the seventh to take the lead. » Continue reading “Alex Rios Homer Leads White Sox Past Mariners”
