Excuse Me? Have You Seen My Broom?

On a day when many Sox fans unsuccessfully spent four hours tweeting and texting votes for Jake Peavy to the All-Star Game (he lost to Yu Darvish in the Final Vote), the Sox did something no other team has done yet this season: they swept the Texas Rangers.

Playing in record-setting temperatures, the White Sox successfully swept the best team in baseball 2-1. And who provided the heroics? You guessed it: Kevin Youkilis. » Continue reading “Excuse Me? Have You Seen My Broom?”

Youuuuuuuk Walks It Off

The White Sox pulled out another win tonight. This time it required extra innings and the heroics of Kevin Youkilis. The Sox beat the Rangers 5-4 in ten innings.

The Sox started off a little iffy. Dylan Axelrod gave up three runs in the first inning. He settled down a bit and only gave up one more run, a solo home run to Josh Hamilton. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks. Leyson Septimo came on in the sixth, but he gave up a hit and issued a walk before Robin Ventura pulled him. » Continue reading “Youuuuuuuk Walks It Off”

Sale Shines as Sox Score a Dozen

As you’re probably aware by now, the White Sox beat the Twins in the series finale today, 12-5. It was kind of fantastic, if I do say so myself. For all the struggles the Sox had in the Metrodome, they’re having some better luck now that the Twins play in Target Field. Since Target Field opened in 2010, the Sox are 11-10 there.

Chris Sale continued on with his amazing start to the season, picking up his ninth win and dropping his ERA to 2.27. Of his 93 pitches, 64 were for strikes, and Sale only walked one batter. He did give up two runs, one being a homer in the fifth, but he only allowed six hits over seven innings.

Well, At Least The White Sox Have A Win

So many missed opportunities. So many guys in scoring position. So many guys who couldn’t come through to get a guy home.

Final score of 5-0 in favor of the Rangers in Sunday Night Baseball. I hate seeing my guys get shut out, but what are you going to do? Observations?

  • The Sox hitters early on were making Matt Harrison throw a lot of pitches. I liked seeing them attempt to work the count. Some guys got full counts and others were fouling off a ton of pitches. in any event, I was hoping that would work in their favor against Harrison, but it didn’t.
  • Matt Harrison had something special going on. A few times tonight, he got himself into quite the jam. Enough that there could have potentially been a big inning for the White Sox. However it was not meant to be. » Continue reading “Well, At Least The White Sox Have A Win”

That Was Uneventful

The White Sox hoped to salvage the series. But that was a no-go. Phil Humber started the game but was hit in the face by a line drive from Kosuke Fukudome. He left the game under his own power and will be reevaluated tomorrow. The Sox went on to lose to the Indians, 4-2.

Humber only lasted 1.1 innings before being hit in the face. Zach Stewart came on in relief and pitched 2.2 innings. He gave up two runs on four hits and a walk. The runs came on a two-run home run from Matt LaPorta. Will Ohman, who picked up the loss, pitched 1.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk. Jason Frasor pitched 0.2 innings and allowed a walk. Matt Thornton and Sergio Santos pitched great again in the last three innings.

The offense sputtered. There isn’t much to be said when you score two runs on nine hits. Paul Konerko hit a solo home run in the third. It was his 28th of the season. Tyler Flowers batted in Alex Rios for the other run. Konerko, Adam Dunn, Omar Vizquel, and Flowers all had good nights. Konerko, Dunn, and Vizquel all went 2-for-4. Konerko also had a walk. Flowers went 1-for-1 with three walks.

The Sox stay at home and welcome the Texas Rangers into town. Jake Peavy faces Matt Harrison tomorrow night as the Sox hope to start a new winnings streak and gain ground in the AL Central.
