After dropping the series opener, the Sox looked to get back to their winning ways. The Sox pitted Dylan Axelrod against a dominating pitcher: Felix Hernandez. In the end, the Sox pulled out a 4-3 winner.
Axelrod had a pretty good day Saturday. He lasted 5.2 innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits and two walks. The error from Jeff Keppinger in the second allowed Raul Ibanez to cross home. When Axelrod left the game, the Sox were tied at one with the Mariners, thus denying him the win. Donnie Veal came on to pitch a perfect inning with two strikeouts. He picked up the win, as the Sox scored two runs in the seventh to take the lead. » Continue reading “Alex Rios Homer Leads White Sox Past Mariners”

70-55 this season
Let’s be real. The last two games have been ridiculous. Friday giving up six runs in the top of the ninth inning and then come back to win it in the ninth. Saturday having the starter put you in a huge whole that looked insurmountable. Only to have the team come back and win. Today, it would be really nice to see a game that is just the Sox getting out ahead and staying ahead.
To do it, Robin, fresh off a short night thanks to an ejection in the third inning, is sending out the following guys for what he hopes is an easy day:
Dewayne Wise CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, The Cuban Missile SS, Jordan Danks LF, Tyler Flowers C, Ray Olmedo 2B.
Mr. Consistently Inconsistent will start for the White Sox. For the love of all things holy, sacred and good, it would be so fantastic for Gavin Floyd to be good and NOT give up the lead right away. It is the 24th start of the season and heard to believe, 15th at home. This is also the second start against the Mariners this season. » Continue reading “Can It Happen? Drama!!! That is what the Sox game had tonight. A pitcher who was all over the place early on. An umpire with an inconsistent strike zone. So inconsistent that the team who was visiting from the lopsided calls in the zone were commenting on the unevenness of the strike zone. Ejection of a catcher for saying “golly gee fizz” and a manager defending his guy. » Continue reading “Dirty Mouths, Bad Calls And A Must Win”

Thank you Paul Konerko! The White Sox manage to squeak out a 9-8 win over the Mariners. I say squeak because headed into the ninth inning, the Sox had a 7-2 lead. They should have cruised to a win over the Mariners. But, alas that wasn’t to be.
The bullpen had a hiccup tonight, allowing the Mariners to score six runs to take an 8-7 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning. Things weren’t exactly looking promising with Gordon Beckham leading off the inning. However, he proved people wrong by getting on. Then Dewayne Wise followed. Kevin Youkilis then singled to drive in Bacon who represented the tying run. Adam Dunn the flied out and finally, Paul Konerko came to the plate and hit a ball into the right field gap that allowed Wise to score the go-ahead winning run. » Continue reading “White Sox Win in Ridiculous Fashion And Stop Mariners”

68-55 this season
The Sox are streaking. The Mariners are really streaking. Three-game win streak versus eight-game winning streak. Who will falter first? Tonight that question will be answered as the Sox go for four in a row while the Mariners will go for nine in a row.
Here is Robin’s lineup tonight to ensure it is four:
Dewayne Wise CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Jake “Dirt Bag” Peavy will start for the Sox tonight. Aside from a win, Jake probably would love to get just a little bit of run support in his start tonight. Tonight is his 25th start of the season and 12th at home. If you believed Jake would last this long into the season, good for you. I was skeptical, but he has proven time and again he is healthy, which is nice to see.
So far this season, he has allowed three or fewer runs in nine of his games. In other words, he has been sure to give the team a chance to win. His last start was against the PITAs and he suffered the loss. He threw 5.1 innings where he gave up three earned runs (five total surrendered) on nine hits. He did strike out six and walked one. The 5.1 innings pitched tied his season low in innings in a game. He also only survived 5.1 in a game against the Tigers in Detroit. » Continue reading “Who Blinks First? What do August 6-8, 1991 and August 20-22, 2012 have in common?
The White Sox swept the Yankees in three games in Chicago in both of those series. The 1991 series was actually the last time the Sox had a three-game sweep of the Yankees in Chicago. Tonight was a 2-1 win, and Chris Sale led the way in his first start against the Yankees. » Continue reading “How Sweep It Is!”
