Youuuuuuuk Walks It Off

The White Sox pulled out another win tonight. This time it required extra innings and the heroics of Kevin Youkilis. The Sox beat the Rangers 5-4 in ten innings.

The Sox started off a little iffy. Dylan Axelrod gave up three runs in the first inning. He settled down a bit and only gave up one more run, a solo home run to Josh Hamilton. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks. Leyson Septimo came on in the sixth, but he gave up a hit and issued a walk before Robin Ventura pulled him. » Continue reading “Youuuuuuuk Walks It Off”

Sale Shines as Sox Score a Dozen

As you’re probably aware by now, the White Sox beat the Twins in the series finale today, 12-5. It was kind of fantastic, if I do say so myself. For all the struggles the Sox had in the Metrodome, they’re having some better luck now that the Twins play in Target Field. Since Target Field opened in 2010, the Sox are 11-10 there.

Chris Sale continued on with his amazing start to the season, picking up his ninth win and dropping his ERA to 2.27. Of his 93 pitches, 64 were for strikes, and Sale only walked one batter. He did give up two runs, one being a homer in the fifth, but he only allowed six hits over seven innings.

Paul Konerko for ASG Starter

It’s May 25 today. It’s a lovely day in Chicago, and I’m in class right now on a break. And it crossed my mind that something is going to irritate me to no end soon.

All-Star balloting.

I am fully aware that the ASG is a popularity contest by casual baseball fans who constantly vote for names or teams they recognize rather than the players who deserve to be there because they are actually really good.

But Paul Konerko deserves to be starting at first base. And I will do whatever it takes to get people to vote for him.

I’ll start with the stats that everyone looks at and that MLB allows you to compare when you click on the “Compare Stats” link: average, runs, home runs, RBI and stolen bases. » Continue reading “Paul Konerko for ASG Starter”

Offense Explodes in Win

Remember when we traded for Jake Peavy while he was injured? That was fun. Peavy was broken and stayed broken for a long time. Sox fans were looking for that great pitcher that we thought we were getting.

It seems like that pitcher has come back. Yes, I know it’s still April and anything can happen. But Peavy looks good. In Wednesday’s game, he pitched seven innings and only gave up one run while striking out eight. Not bad for someone who detached a muscle.

Offensively, the Sox exploded tonight. Adam Dunn looked great tonight. He went 1-for-2 with a strikeout and three walks. That one hit was a key hit. In the sixth inning, Tommy Hunter loaded the bases. Orioles manager Buck Showalter pulled Hunter and replaced him with Troy Patton with two outs in the inning. With a full count from Patton, Dunn doubled to left and cleared the bases, putting the Sox up 8-1 which would be the final score.

You know who else looked fantastic again? » Continue reading “Offense Explodes in Win”

When

That is the question I keep asking. When will the Sox turn it around? When will the Sox start playing like the team everyone thought they would be? When will the Sox start looking like the back of the baseball cards? If this is who this team is, then WHEN will they let the fans go and just get out of the race?

The Sox dropped the opener to the Rangers by a score of 7-4. Despite it being Elvis Night at the park, it seemed things were kind of dead from early on. Sure, the Sox jumped on Matt Harrison early with a couple of runs in the first inning and adding a third run in the second. However, if you have watched the trials and tribulations of this team all season, you knew it just might be too good to be true.

Sure enough, Jake Peavy seemed to hit the usual wall in the fourth inning when he allowed Michael Young to get on base. Young was then driven home on a double by Nelson Cruz. Later in the inning, Mitch Moreland hit a three-run home run to put the Rangers ahead 4-3. Fourth inning or 75 pitches, that is where Jake seems to fall apart after seeming to cruise along until that point.

There was a valiant effort to tie the game up when Gordon Beckham scored on a Brent Lillibridge sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. Sadly, Texas decided they wanted the win more and added three runs in the sixth inning to go ahead for good and more importantly, put the game away. Josh Hamilton hit a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning. It was the kind of shot that the outfielders didn’t even bother to move from where they had set up. A bit later, Mitch Moreland went deep again with a two-run shot that also scored Mike Napoli. » Continue reading “When”

South Side Hits

Ugh. Yet another loss. I need to come up with a new slogan to get through this stretch even though it’s early. On top of the loss, the weather in Chicago is just turrible. It’s supposed to be spring and there were thunderstorms last night, tornado watches elsewhere in the midwest and the temperatures are just too dang cold. So, to get you through the morning until there is baseball, here are some morning reads.

Rays fans got free pizza due to the performance of the White Sox Monday. Not exactly something you want to do as a visiting team.

Ken Green shares a list of players on other teams that as Sox fans you really hate to see. Sadly, if you could have most of these players on the White Sox, I’m sure you would take them in a second.

Scott Gregor takes a closer look at the problems behind the recent slide of the White Sox.

Despite my attempts to look away, Doug Padilla has the latest on the train wreck rehab of Jake Peavy and the next steps in his road to recovery.

Although, the Sox are on a 6-game skid, Ozzie has faith his guys will right the ship.

Ever wonder about how the size of baseball players has changed over time? Look no further. I found this particularly fascinating since now when you see a guy who is 6 feet tall (which is tall my world being only 5’3″) he is now viewed as a short guy in sports.

David Miller puts some perspective on Jake Peavy not being with the team.

James discusses Matt Thornton‘s recent outing and what it meant to see it.

With Ramon Castro having started in Monday’s game, JJ says why it was a good thing for Oz to do.

Enjoy the day and dear baseball gods, can you Puh-leez stop the Rays and get the White Sox back on the winning track? Thank you :-)
