White Sox Face Buzzsaw Against GREATEST Pitcher Ever!

Welp, that wasn’t fun. Paul Konerko returned to the lineup today in the field. Good sign as he appears to be completely healthy after his concussion. As for the game, the White Sox got swept for the second time this season. They managed to make Jeremy Guthrie look like the GREATEST PITCHER EVER IN THE GAME! He cruised through 6.2 innings only giving up one walk. Yes, you read that right. He only walked one through 6.2 innings and didn’t give up a hit!

Paul Konerko FINALLY got a hit after 6.2 innings, though it was questionable of whether Alcides Escobar should have been charged with a throwing error to Eric Hosmer. Personally, I think the throw should have been ruled an error, but I’ll take the hit to prevent a no-hitter. In any event, no perfect game or no-hitter for Jeremy. Dayan Viciedo did get a legitimate hit in the eighth inning so now there is no question that Guthrie wouldn’t have the specter of a potential no-hitter hanging over his head.

And now this is what the Royals and their fans are doing White Sox players (at least for a little bit):

It Was Time And He Was Due

Why does the loss tonight feel so awful? In reality, fans shouldn’t have been expecting too much from the Sox this season. However, they’ve played so well that they just make us drink their kool-aid and we just expect wins now.

Unfortunately that didn’t happen tonight as Bruce Chen got the better of the Sox and picked up his first win in eight tries of late. Final of 5-2 and it was rather un-fun to watch.

The game didn’t start of particularly well for Jake Peavy as he walked the first two batters. Fortunately, he managed to allow no runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the inning, it was looking pretty promising for the Sox when Gordon Beckham led off the game for the Sox with a solo home run. The feeling that Jake might now have it tonight was quickly erased. » Continue reading “It Was Time And He Was Due”
