Sell Me on Those Sox

“Hello! Welcome to [name of big warehouse store]! Would you like to try our [name of product]?”

I work weekends as Free Sample Girl at one of the big warehouse stores, so you can imagine how many times I say that a day. My job is to sell you whatever product is on my cart, and more often than not, I’m pretty good at it. If you have things in your shopping cart already, I can take a quick glance in and see if I can relate the product I’m sampling to what’s in your cart.

The point is, I can sell food products REALLY well. So why am I telling you this?

The AFC and NFC Championship games were on Sunday. So the store was really slow. Not many people wanted to try my red grapefruit.

It gave me time to think, and I thought to myself, “If the White Sox were a product in this store, how would I sell them? Especially this year.”

SoxFest 2012: What You Might Have Missed On Opening Night

Bud Selig presenting award to Jerry Reinsdorf at Sox Fest

Hey one and all. Sox Fest began last night. It was fun times. In all honestly, I was kind of wondering what to expect given the changes the team has gone through this off season. Not to mention, it is hard to figure out just what exactly this season is going to be. In case you missed it, I am live-tweeting from the seminars. Below, you can read my tweets from last night. I apologize for the spelling errors, but that can happen when you are trying to quickly type. If you have any questions about stuff, feel free to leave them in the comments. I will be back today live-tweeting and will have a recap of Saturday for you as well.

If you want to follow along during the day, just check out my twitter feed. I apologize in advance if I don’t respond to your tweets right away. Coverage can be spotty so I might not see it for a bit. Don’t forget, if you are around tonight, come hang out with me at Miller’s Pub around 7:30. And if you are at Sox Fest, come say hi 8-)

And now for the tweets from the Opening Ceremonies:  » Continue reading “SoxFest 2012: What You Might Have Missed On Opening Night”

South Side Hits: January 16, 2012 White Sox Links

A site fans want to see after every game

Happy Monday and MLK Day! If you have the day off, great. If not, sorry  you can’t extend the weekend a little bit longer. Hopefully the weekend was good for you. If you are a football fan, I hope you got what you wanted out of the games. Sadly, I did not, but that just means i can focus on getting ready for baseball season now.

As for news with the Sox, not a lot going on, except a certain Dirt Bag did make some news with an interview he gave with Chris Rongey on White Sox Weekly. If you didn’t get a chance to listen, you really should. Actually, you HAVE to listen to this interview. » Continue reading “South Side Hits: January 16, 2012 White Sox Links”

South Side Hits: White Sox Links for December 16, 2011

Happy Friday! The work week is winding down, college students are finishing finals, and Christmas is a week away. It’s also been a bit warm here in Chicago, which I personally think is lovely since I hate winter. But that’s just me.

In White Sox Land, not much has happened. But a few stories have popped up since our last post here. Take a look before you start your weekend fun:

Some Sox players, Jake Peavy in particular, were not happy with Don Cooper at the beginning of the season.

Speaking of Peavy, he thinks a change at the top is exactly what the White Sox needed for this season.

Gordon Beckham has put the negativity behind him and is ready for a better 2012.

The Nationals are interested in John Danks – but as a backup in case they can’t get Gio Gonzalez.

Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune answers readers’ questions about the Sox, including several questions about Mark Buehrle.

Have a great weekend, guys!

Happenings At 35th & Shields: Ozzie Is Gone, Yet Still There Is White Sox Controversy

No, not a ton is happening with the White Sox per se. With the World Series starting tonight, not much can be done in terms of moves. Mainly because there is an unwritten rule to not do things so that the World Series can take center stage.

Makes perfect sense to put a hold on things with teams so that the last two teams standing can have the spotlight all to themselves. GO RANGERS! However, if you have followed the White Sox for any bit the last few years, you know that a certain person who for all intents and purposes appears as an attention-whore.

Well, it seems that thanks to a recent story by the man who appears to be Ozzie Guillen’s resident mouthpiece, there is a bit more drama going on. The departure has now turned into a war of words, so to speak. » Continue reading “Happenings At 35th & Shields: Ozzie Is Gone, Yet Still There Is White Sox Controversy”

South Side Hits: October 6, 2011

We’ve got series going on! Three of the four are going to deciding game fives! Who would have thought. The only team to have an “easy” road is the Rangers and those games were all close. Oh to wish to be one of the teams still fighting for the ultimate prize. Oh well, at least you can catch up on the news you might have missed.

Don Cooper is a big fan of Tito.

Was rest the key to The King’s success again this year?

 Big props for Dave Martinez

The jury may be out as to whether fans really want Tito as manager. That’s ok as he is uncertain what he wants to do in 2012.

Qualities needed in the new White Sox manager?

James explains why a youth movement is a good idea on the south side.

South Side Hits: October 5, 2011

Well, well well. The Rangers are one step away from getting back to the World Series as they finished off the Rays this afternoon. They are the first of the final four. The other teams are still battling it out. Meanwhile, members of our Chicago White Sox sit at home. Perhaps they are watching (at least we know AJ Pierzynski is watching) or maybe they’ve tried to block it out by enjoying some NFL and college football. Now for some news and stories you might have missed.

Is The Carlos Quentin soon to be on the block? Maybe.

A nice article on one of my favorite players, Mark Buehrle.

While for most of us it seems Chris Sale to the rotation seems a foregone conclusion, Don Cooper says not so fast.

Another possible landing spot for Rick Hahn? And no, it’s not on the north side of Chicago. » Continue reading “South Side Hits: October 5, 2011″

Buehrle Dazzles in Final Start of the Season

The second-to-last game of the season was an important one for Sox fans. Mark Buehrle was making his final start of the season and perhaps his final start as a White Sox.

Well . . .

Ozzie is gone. He posted on his blog last night that he was going to Florida, but it was taken down. Of course, there are many things to think about with his departure.

First, we know that Joey Cora will be managing the final two games of the season. I like Joey and given that it is the last couple of games, it almost seems a moot point. I feel certain that Joey is not on the short list of candidates that Ken Williams had mentioned last night in the post-game press conference. So the question is who will be the manager? » Continue reading “Well . . .”

Oh Philip, I Wear A Sad Face For You

Dear Philip,

I know you are in new territory this season. You’ve been in the starting rotation and you’ve been good. I mean REALLY good for the most part. Even though you have been in the show for a number of years, you haven’t had real success until now. However, because of your lack of success until Don Cooper got his hands on you, you haven’t pitched a ton. You are basically like a rookie in terms of endurance and holding up over the long slog of 162 games.

Given that, it is understandable that you are starting to tire and maybe even go through a dead arm period or something. In any event, I must admit, it’s highly frustrating watching you pitch of late. The offense of your teammates is spotty at best. You and the other pitchers on the staff know this. And I have no doubt you guys on the pitching staff try not to give the stink eye when you get no run support. However, when you are having an off night, as you have in your last few starts, it really puts the spotlight on you. Sure, you were close but looking closer at those runs that scored, it really isn’t pretty. Not when the Orioles win tonight by a final of 6-4. » Continue reading “Oh Philip, I Wear A Sad Face For You”
