It appears that the White Sox are actually capable of scoring runs! Who knew! They happened to score quite a few of them tonight, beating the Blue Jays 7-0 behind a great performance from Jose Quintana.
Quintana pitched 6.2 solid innings, allowing just five hits and two walks while striking out seven. He picked up his first win of the season, as he was backed up with some run support. Jesse Crain pitched 1.1 innings allowing just one hit, and Donnie Veal pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one. » Continue reading “White Sox Blank Blue Jays Behind Quintana’s Strong Start”

After losing a close game last night, the White Sox looked to turn things around. Cheryl mentioned briefly yesterday that the Sox will finish this 10-game road trip with a losing record. Despite that, there are still many games to be played, and the Sox needed to get back on the winning track. Facing off against the Blue Jays and pitcher Josh Johnson, the Sox sent Dylan Axelrod to the bump, and the Sox pulled out a 4-3 win.
Axelrod pitched poorly his last time out, lasting just 3.2 innings against the Nationals. This time out, he had a much better performance. He lasted six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk. The two runs were both solo home runs, one from Colby Rasmus and one from JP Arencibia. » Continue reading “White Sox Win Despite Limited Offense”

The Sox finished up their trip in Canada tonight with a spectacular win over the Blue Jays with a final score of 7-2. Francisco Liriano earned his first win as a member of the White Sox, and the Sox launched five home runs in the game.
Liriano gave up a two-run home run in the second to Moises Sierra, putting the Jays on the board first. Luckily those were the only runs scored by the Jays. Liriano gave up just three hits and a walk in 6.1 innings and struck out six. Jesse Crain finished off the seventh without allowing a hit and striking out one. Brett Myers came on for the eighth and gave up two hits while Philip Humber pitched the ninth perfectly, striking out two. » Continue reading “Baseball is Just a Game”

64-52 this season
All that I know is that they’re . . . winning. (Bonus points if you know what song inspired the title and first sentence of this game preview. If you figure it out, I’ll send you a bobblehead!) The Sox finally got over a bugaboo with the Blue Jays and finally won two in a row at Rogers Centre. Tonight, they will try to make it three in a row. Robin’s guys for that purpose tonight are:
DeWayne Wise CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski DH, The Cuban Missile SS, The Cuban Tank LF, Tyler Flowers C, Ray Olmedo 2B.
Francisco Liriano again will try to pick up his fourth win of the season tonight. Tonight will be the fourth start with the White Sox for Liriano. His last start was a no decision against the Athletics last weekend. He allowed six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings. Needless to say, it was far from his best stuff in that outing. He did strike out five in the first two innings. Then things went to crap almost immediately. The Sox went on to lose the game, despite some great bullpen pitching that kept them in the game.
In his career against the Blue Jays, Francisco is 0-3 with a 5.09 ERA. This has been over four games, three of which are starts. The last time Liriano faced the Blue Jays was in April 2011 where he gave up four runs on four hits in 4.1 innings. He gave up five walks and two home runs in that start. Let’s just say, fans are hoping he has a REALLY good night tonight and makes the Blue Jays look silly. » Continue reading “Keep Winning! White Sox @ Blue Jays August 16, 2012″

The White Sox haven’t won two games in a row in Toronto since 2006, according to a tweet from CSN’s Chuck Garfien. The Sox sent out Gavin Floyd to try and break that streak. The Jays sent out Ricky Romero, the Sox finally won two games in a row in Toronto, beating the Blue Jays 9-5.
Floyd took to the bump and started out solid. He went six innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on eight hits. His one big miscue came in the bottom of the sixth. The Sox held a 4-1 lead. With one out and Edwin Encarnacion and David Cooper on base, Kelly Johnson hit his 14th home run of the season, tying the game at four.
Donnie Veal came on in the seventh. He pitched two solid innings, allowing only two base runners. One reached via a walk and another via Veal’s fielding error. Philip Humber came out for the ninth. The first batter he faced was Jeff Mathis, and Humber promptly gave up a solo home run. He was solid for the last three outs, as the Sox put away the Jays.

63-52 this season
The Sox will try to keep the winning going tonight. After having things go just right last night, Robin will be hoping things do the same for this group of guys tonight:
Alejandro De Aza CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Missile SS, The Cuban Tank DH, DeWayne Wise LF, O-Dog 2B.
Mr. Consistently Inconsistent will try to make a successful trip out of Gavinland and start for the Sox tonight. The focus will be to throw strikes, but not the kind that are fat, juicy ones over the heart of the plate against a not so good lineup.
Gavin hasn’t been very good on the road this season. So far this season, he is 1-6 with a 4.35 ERA. The last time he won on the road was at Minnesota in June. His last start was against the Athletics and he got a no-decision. He did allow just three runs on seven hits in six innings. There were also five strikeouts and three walks in the game. While he got the no-decision, Gavin did start out in typical fashion of giving up the runs early and often. He did settle down, but still it was a ton for his team to overcome. » Continue reading “Keeping It Going: White Sox @ Blue Jays August 15, 2012″

It isn’t often the closer of a team is used to get the final four outs, but that is exactly what the Sox did tonight in their 3-2 win over the Blue Jays. The game started out with not a lot going on in the game offensively for either team. The Blue Jays did get on the board in the bottom of the first inning via the old-fashioned get ‘em on, get ‘em over, and get ‘em in.
The Jays would add their second and final run in the third inning. Again with the basic formula. The Sox would come roaring back in the fifth inning however and score all of their runs. They would also do it without a long ball as well. In the process, AJ Pierzynski extended his hitting streak to 15 games. Who knew he could do what he has been doing as an old man of 35? » Continue reading “Four-out Save For Addison Reed? Four-out Save For Addison Reed!”

The Sox headed north of the border to face the Toronto Blue Jays for a four-game set. They hoped to take an early series lead tonight, but unfortunately they fell in extras, 3-2.
Only one Sox batter had a really good night. The offense picked up seven hits and a walk, but Adam Dunn had a great night, going 3-for-5. In the past 13 games, he has been homerless. Tonight, he put all the runs on the board. In the fourth he hit a monster home run. It was estimated to be 469 feet, and it hit off of his face on the scoreboard in center field. It was waaaaaaaay up there. That was career home run number 397. In the top of the ninth, he tied the game at 2 with his 398th homer. Those two RBI were also numbers 999 and 1,000 of his career. And to top it off, he didn’t strike out tonight. » Continue reading “Blame Canada”

62-51 this season
In Canada for the first time this season. And fans will get to hear Oh, Canada as well as the Star Spangled Banner. Admit it, Oh, Canada is a good song. Tonight, quite a heady task lies ahead for the White Sox as they will take on the Blue Jays. For those scoreboard watching, the Tigers are taking on the lowly Twins. Pretty easy to see how these games are huge since the Sox tend to struggle against the Jays even though the Jays are currently struggling themselves.
Robin is sending out the following guys tonight:
Alejandro De Aza CF, Youk 3B, Big Donkey 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski DH, The Cuban Missile SS, The Cuban Tank LF, Tyler Flowers C, Bacon 2B.
Jake “Dirt Bag” Peavy will start for the Sox tonight. Jake is trying to get into double figures in win tonight. On the road, Dirt Bag is 4-5 with a 2.96 ERA over 11 starts. For the most part, Jake has been pretty good lately in allowing just three runs or less in eight of the 11 starts and thrown two complete games. Unfortunately, on the flip side, he doesn’t get much run support from his teammates. Typically, they have given him one run at the most lately.
His last start was a loss against the PITAs on August 7. He threw 6.2 innings where he gave up three runs on seven hits. In that game, he had allowed just one hit through the first five innings before he gave up the rest of the innings he pitched. Against Toronto, he is 2-0 with a 4.00 ERA in four starts. He has one start at Rogers Centre where he is 0-0 with an 11.12 ERA. The last time he faced the Blue Jays, he won in July 2012. He allowed just one run on five hits while striking out seven in 7.1 innings worth of work. » Continue reading “Oh Canada! Part II: White Sox @ Blue Jays August 13, 2012″
