Hello Sox Fans!!!! Sorry that I have been away from talking to you. Unfortunately, my “real” job got in the way of me keeping up as meticulously as I should with White Sox news of late. However, hopefully you’ve been kept abreast of what has been happening with the team.
So far this off season, we’ve seen some decent re-signings as well as having to say goodbye to old favorites we all love for one reason or another. And now that it is late January, we might be starting to get itchy for baseball. The World Baseball Classic will soon be starting up, which will slightly fill the role of the game until Opening Day. Speaking of WBC, congratulatiosn to Jesse Crain (Team Canada), Alex Rios, Hector Santiago, Andy Gonzalez (Team Puerto Rico) and Andre Rienzo (Team Brazil) on their participation. But of course, the big news is that SoxFest is next weekend. Are you going to be there? If not, no worries as I will be there again to live tweet what is happening. Be sure to follow me on Twitter for all the happenings at SoxFest.
Speaking of SoxFest, the following guys are scheduled to attend this year: White Sox manager Robin Ventura, assistant hitting coach Harold Baines, current players; John Danks, Tyler Flowers, Gavin Floyd, Nate Jones, Paul Konerko, Jake Peavy, Alexei Ramierez, Addison Reed, Chris Sale, Hector Santiago, Matt Thornton and Dayan Viciedo. Former players and Sox greats; Joe Crede, Jermaine Dye, Ron Kittle, Tony LaRussa, Greg Luzinski, Carlos May, Jack McDowell, Tom Paciorek, Aaron Rowand and Frank Thomas.
If you recall from last year, Gavin Floyd made quite the impression on Will Ohman (sorry to bring up that name if you’d banished him from memory.) Anyway, Gavin wore what was described as Mr. Rogers Neighborhood sweaters all weekend. I am wondering if this year, he does the same or perhaps switches things up because of the talk last year about his sweaters. Personally, I thought they were a good look on him. What do you think Gavin will sport as wardrobe at SoxFest?
Other than seeing what Gavin will wear, I’m looking forward to seeing what Rick Hahn has to say now that he is the man in charge. Or I should say, what fans will have to ask him about given the years of “going off” on Ken Williams at SoxFest. I’m also looking forward to seeing some of the former players like Aaron Rowand and Jack McDowell. Of course, it will also be awesome to see Jermaine Dye as well.
In addition to hearing what people have to say, I think the best session is usually the Sox Festivus panel. It is really a marketing panel with Brooks Boyer and he allows for fans to tell them how things can be improved in terms of the game experience. Last year was hilarious because it turned into a session with lots of fans complaining about everything under the sun. A few things had some legitimate merit, but most were just a bunch of angry people who probably just wanted to complain for a bit (at least that is how I saw things.)
In other news, the Sox have announced the promotional items for the 2013 season. Highlights include bobbleheads of The King and Harold Baines. I’m pretty excited about getting a new Paul Konerko bobblehead. There are going to be a couple of hats (yay free hats) that will have the 1983 logo on them and of course several fireworks nights. There are also two dog days like there were in 2012.
Are you getting anxious for the season to start? I’m slowly getting there and I am sure it will be full fledged cannot wait for baseball season once SoxFest starts next weekend.
