Are you sitting at a window, staring hopelessly out of it wishing for it to be spring? Though, with the temperatures the past few days in Chicago, it isn’t too hard to imagine spring. In fact, it has felt more like a late April / early May kind of day rather than a January one.
Sadly, the weather will take a turn for the “awful” and starting being January in just mere hours. I feel like the tease of the weather is really messing with those of us who have been severely baseball deprived. It has felt like early season baseball lately. Ah well, as each day passes, we get closer to the season. And if we have to deal with some crap weather soon, it will just make the season feel that much more special when it finally arrives.
As for Sox news, not a ton going on. Some signings and some news about SoxFest attendees. In case you have missed those stories and others, here ya go:
Perhaps the Sox ARE taking steps to rebuild the minor leagues. They signed righty Luis Martinez from Venezuela.
MLB Commissioner Bud Selig will attend the first night of SoxFest this year. Bud also got an extension. You can read more about what he will be doing at SoxFest here.
Addison Reed has some big goals for himself this season. I am looking forward to seeing what this kid will do.
Did you know that the more powerful a hitter is, the less clutch he is? Well, Beyond the Boxscore has the story on this.
The Sox will get some early season primetime exposure. Their game against defending AL Champion Rangers on April 8th has been picked up by ESPN for Sunday Night Baseball.
I’m sure you may have picked up on the fact that I am not a fan of Alex Rios and his “defense.” Over at South Side Sox, Jim has a great video and post about why he should not play CF this season. I am on board with no Rios in Center Field. If Robin happened to have seen this, please take it to heart, Mr. Ventura. No one is trying to tell you how to run your team. However, those of us who have seen Mr. Rios know he just isn’t cut out for CF anymore. Move him to a spot where he will do less harm defensively. After all, DEFENSE AND PITCHING are big parts of getting wins.
Enjoy your day and hope you are prepared for the upcoming weather here in Chicago. If you are in a nice weather place right now, enjoy it for those of us about to deal with some snow.

Someone on twitter (can’t remember who) was setting the over/under on the number of Ventura/Ryan references at 12.
I really hope I don’t have to watch that game on mute.
