It’s really all that fans ask. After last night’s phoning it it session, it’d be nice for fans to see a team that is supposed to be good actually play that way AND take care of a bad team. This afternoon, Robin is sending out the following guys in hopes of that happening:
Dewayne Wise CF, Youk, 3B, Big Donkey 1B, The King DH, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Jake “Dirt Bag” Peavy will start this afternoon. I have a feeling after last night’s travesty of baseball that Dirt Bag is feeling especially pumped and rearing to get his team riled up to in this series.
Jake is looking to pick up his 10th win of the season. It has been elusive for him in his last few starts. In his last five starts, Jake is 0-3 with a 4.36 ERA. He has however put in quality starts in three of those games.
His last start was a loss against Detroit where Jake just didn’t look good. He allowed six runs on nine hits in just six innings of work. He did strike out four but he also walked the same number of batters.
Against the Twins, Jake is 4-3 with a 3.20 ERA in nine career starts. At home against them, he is 1-2 with a 7.04 ERA however. The last time he faced the Twins, he got the win where he allowed just two runs on five hits in eight innings. Only one of the two runs was earned. .
Ron Gardenhire will send out the following guys to keep making life miserable for the Sox:
Ben Revere CF, Eduardo Escobar 2B, Dandruff Boy DH, Justin Morneau 1B, Ryan Doumit C, Chris Parmelee RF, Trevor Plouffe 3B, Matt Carson LF, Pedro Florimon SS.
P.J. Walters will start for the Twins this afternoon. On the season, he is 2-2 with a 5.40 ERA in seven starts. His last start was against the Phillies in June. He ended up leaving that game early with shoulder soreness. P.J. does have one game against the Sox. In it, he threw a complete game where he gave up just two runs on five hits in May of this year.
*Notes: The last time the Sox gave up seven runs in two innings in the same game was in 1903 against Cleveland. This is the first season since 2005 that the Twins have lost 10 games to the White Sox.
