Remember last season when Franciso Liriano threw a no-hitter against the White Sox? Yeah, that was just miserable. A cold and rainy evening. Tons of walks issued and the Sox couldn’t manage to solve that dude.
Let’s hope tonight is way different as we have a guy who is for the most part pretty good going on the mound. Here is Robin’s lineup for the first of three against the no-longer feared Twins:
Alejandro De Aza CF, Kevin Youkilis 3B, Big Donkey DH, The King 1B, Alex Rios RF, AJ Pierzynski C, The Cuban Tank LF, The Cuban Missile SS, Bacon 2B.
Jake “Dirt Bag” Peavy will start for the White Sox tonight. Jake’s last outing was amazing from his standpoint, but terrible from the team’s standpoint. Jake pitched a one earned run complete game. Unfortunately, his teammates couldn’t muster any runs so Jake didn’t get a win.
In the last four starts for Jake, he is 0-2 with a 1.91 ERA. He has managed to hold the opposition to a .173 batting average. Tonight makes the seventh career start for Dirt Bag against the Twins. In his career, he is 2-2 with a 3.72 ERA. The last time Jake faced the Twins was in September of 2011. He earned the victory throwing 6.1 scoreless innings against the Twins. He did give up just four hits in that outing.
Ron Gardenhire will send out the following guys in hopes of turning his team’s fortunes around:
Denard Span CF, Ben Revere RF, Dandruff Boy DH, Josh Willingham LF, Justin Morneau 1B, Trevor Plouffe 3B, Brian Dozier SS, Drew Butera C, Jamey Carroll 2B.
Francisco Liriano will start for the Twins. His last outing against the Pirates last week resulted in him giving up just one run on four hits. He did surrender two walks in 6.2 innings. Over his last five outings, Liriano has posted a 2.67 ERA since coming back to the rotation on May 30.
*Notes: The Sox finished interleague plague at .500 this season. They have the third best record in interleague behind the Yankees and Angels. The Twins have been shutout seven times this season so far. Last year, they were shut out 13 times.
