Going For It: White Sox V Rangers July 5, 2012

44-37 this season

Yes, the Sox could do that special thing this afternoon. With the pounding the Rangers took Tuesday night and the thrilling, grindy at-bats that De Aza and Youk had to end things last night, the series has been win.  Now to try and finish it off.

This afternoon, Robin is sending out he following guys just for that purpose:

Bacon 2B, Eduardo Escobar 3B, Youk 1B, The King DH, Alex Rios RF, The Cuban Missile SS, The Cuban Tank LF, Tyler Flowers C, Jordan Danks CF.

Jose Quintana will start for the Sox this afternoon. He is making his eighth career start today, but 10th career appearance overall.

In his last four starts, Jose is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA. He has never faced the Rangers before. In his last start, he wasn’t pitching very well and ended up allowing six earned runs. That was the total he had given up in his prior six starts combined. He did get the win as the offense picked him up against the Yankees last weekend.

50-32 this season

Ron Washington will trot out the following group of guys to stop the bleeding:

Ian Kinsler 2B, Elvis Andrus SS, Josh Hamilton LF, Adrian Beltre 3B, Michael Young DH, Nelson Cruz RF, Brandon Snyder 1B, Yorvit Torrealba C, Craig Gentry CF.

Matt Harrison will start for the Rangers. The June AL Pitcher of the Month is probably the perfect guy to have on the mound after an ugly loss and a close loss.

Today is the 17th start of the season for Matt. In his career against the Sox, Matt is 3-0 with a 2.91 ERA in six starts. The last time he faced the So at the Cellx, he threw a four-hit shutout in May of 2009.

*Notes: Looks like yesterday’s starter, Dylan Axelrod will start for the Sox on Sunday. If you are on Twitter, be sure to tweet #TakeJake and #FreesePlease from 11 am CDT until 3pm to send both guys to KC next week. Each use of the hashtag will count. Texas’s Robbie Ross’s 1.2 innings of work yesterday extended his scoreless streak to 21 innings.
