Yes, White Sox, let’s keep playing horribly. That’s just what you need to get into the postseason. Especially since the Tigers won this afternoon. Unfortunately, the Sox continued to play like crap and lost to the Rays, 3-2.

Jake Peavy actually pitched rather well tonight. He went 7.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk. Not too shabby. Unfortunately, Brett Myers picked up the loss. Over 1.2 innings, he allowed one run on one hit. That was Evan Longoria’s solo homer in the ninth. Had the offense actually produced, that wouldn’t have been a horrible line. Between the two pitchers, the Rays only had six baserunners.

The Sox, on the other hand, had 15 baserunners. And only scored two runs. Kevin Youkilis had a great night tonight. He went 3-for-4 and was hit by a pitch. Excellent night. No one else really had a good night. Alejandro De Aza, Alex Rios, AJ Pierzynski, Dayan Viciedo, and Alexei Ramirez each picked up one hit. De Aza also had a walk, and Adam Dunn and Paul Konerko each had two walks. Despite actually having baserunners, the Sox did nothing with them.

The Sox are slumping, and it’s the worst possible time for them to slump. Detroit beat the Royals again this afternoon, so now the Sox are two games back. They have an elimination number of five with five games to play. They need to work some magic in order to actually get into the postseason.

Hey, Gavin Floyd is pitching tomorrow night. That will raise our collective blood pressure, I’m sure. He had a great start at the beginning of the Angels game but blew it in the sixth as the Sox lost that game. He faces off against Jeremy Hellickson, who has a 9-10 record and a 3.20 ERA. Here’s hoping Gavin has a good game, the Sox actually score runs, and Scott Diamond beats the Tigers.
