I would hope as a fan of the team, you would much rather Dirt Bag pitch in a 7-6 win. Sure, a 1-0 loss looks “good” in terms of individual stats for the pitcher. If the run was earned, it was the only one given up. It is even “better” if that one run was given up over the course of eight or nine innings pitched by Dirt Bag. But in the grand scheme of things, the 1-0 loss won’t get the team closer to the promised land.
Tonight, Jake Peavy didn’t have to wonder and worry if he was going to suffer yet another 1-0 loss. Tonight, his teammates provided him with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Blue Jays before the bottom of the fifth were up by a score of 1-0. If you have been watching this team lately, you probably were worried that the score would hold up. Especially since the Blue Jays trotted Aaron Laffey, a lefty out the bump tonight. The Sox haven’t been so good against lefties this season.
Tonight, they put up runs as though playing against a lefty was no big deal. Three runs in the fifth inning. Then AJ hit a solo shot in the sixth inning to make it 4-1. Only three of those runs were charged to Laffey. Jake wanted to go another complete game, but he was pulled after 7.1 innings. His control was off a bit to start the game, but Jake settled down and pitched one hell of a game.
The best part though is he GOT RUN SUPPORT. In his prior few starts, he had only gotten a total of two runs from his teammates. I’m sure during the game, he might have wondered what happened to his teammates since he got four runs tonight. It really was great to see him put up a strong pitching performance and get the run support as well.
In case you were wondering (or you didn’t see the game preview post,) Jake would much prefer to have a 7-6 win than a 1-0 loss. Tonight, he got a score half-way between of 4-2 with the White Sox winning. For him, it is all about the team. And as much as he can annoy me at times with his talking a big game and at times stinking it up, I’m glad he thinks team first.
In other news, the White Sox now have a three game in lead in the AL Central over the Indians who lost to the Rays tonight, but only 4.5 over the Tigers. AND the Sox have a winning homestand heading into the All-Star break. Now, let’s hope they win the next game for another series win! GO WHITE SOX!!!

Speaking of Jake and his whole “talking a big game” have you seen/heard the Gordon Beckham impersonation of Jake video yet? It is absolutely hilarious. It was part of the whole “Take Jake” all-star push that came up a bit short (of course he is on the team now anayways). But I guess this video is making it around to other clubhouses as anyone who knows Jake or even heard him talk knows how great the impersonation was.

I actually saw the video when they showed it at the park. It was pretty funny and the whole campaign was amusing to see. Chris Rongey has an article in the daily herald that explains a lof of the behind the scenes of the video with none other than it being the brainchild if you will of Paul Konerko. Just one more reason to love The King.
