Tonight’s recap is brought to you by a Twitter-esque stream of consciousness:
1st
Lindback with a breakaway stop on Scotty Upshall 5 minutes in. Not a great shot but Lindback put himself in the right position.
Crombeen fights Ellerby. Ellerby gets an instigating penalty since he wears a shield…and to be honest he would have gotten wrecked had he not had it. Steven Stamkos pots a rebound on the ensuing PP. Marty and Vinny with assists…Marty is turning into Joe Thornton with all of these apples.
Peter Mueller answers a short time later. Lindback misplayed the puck behind the net and it cost him. Not to be outdone, Cory Conacher responded with a breakaway from the blue line in. Victor Hedman sprung him with a fantastic pass. Conacher had guys all over him but deposited the puck anyway.
2nd
Dana Tyrell speeds down the boards…backhand chip towards the net, off the stick of Tom Pyatt and between the legs of Theodore. 3-1 game. I was thinking that Conacher appears more comfortable at the NHL level and he scored a nice goal just about then…but it was negated as he had held the defender to get around him. Tyrell and Pyatt combine for another goal, this time Tyrell with a one timer out front. 4-1 game. The scoring pace will fall off eventually but right now this Lightning squad is unbeatable at home. Thompson, Labrie, and Lee are the only remaining players without a point on the season.
3rd
Pretty quiet. Lecavalier scores a pretty PP goal from Conacher and Pouliot. Good night, sweet Panthers. 5-1. Tomas Fleischmann scores a shorthanded goal to make it 5-2. Terrible D and a real shame that Lindback’s stat line is affected.
All told, another dominating home performance for the Bolts. It will be interesting to see how the teams plays on the road. Results have been mixed thus far – a failed comeback on the Island and a solid win in Carolina. The next game is on Friday at the Tampa Bay Times Forum against the Winnipeg Jets – see you there!
