The One Where Steven Stamkos Makes Us Feel Lazy

It’s been almost 8 months since the Tampa Bay Lightning played their last game. 8 long months. Players still hanging around North America are holding onto hope that there will be some sort of season. They’re doing all they can to say as close to playing shape as they can. This includes the league’s leading scorer, Steven Stamkos.

In the last week alone Stamkos has played in Operation Hat Trick in Atlantic City and returned home to Toronto to continue training. He has spent the last few summers at former teammate Gary Roberts Training Centre. The combination of work outs and focus on nutrition have transformed into one of the best players in the NHL.

Roberts has been posting some of Stammer’s workout videos on his Tumblr, allowing us to keep tabs on our favorite sniper. It’s tough to know which is more amazing: that Steven has survived this house of pain for so long or that Gary Roberts knows how to work Tumblr.

Here’s what Stammer has been doing:

Per Gary’s Tumblr Steven is performing the 1 ¼ Trapbar Deadlift. “This exercise targets the Lower Body (Quadriceps, Glutes and Hamstrings) while working on maintaining good posture through the upper back muscles. The added ¼ is an advanced version of the Trapbar Deadlift and targets more core stabilization.”

Um, right. He was also doing this:

That’s the Incline Stability Ball Dumbbell Chest Press. “The exercises targets Upper Body Pectoral Muscles and Anterior Deltoids. Using the Stability Ball targets more core stabilization”.

Sure. This is admirable considering I’ve been spending the lockout watching bad television and eating ice cream. Hopefully this serves as inspiration for all of us to get off the couch and take a walk or something.

Come back, hockey. Come back soon.
