Vaclav Prospal Memorial Bench? Make It Happen

One of the most comprehensive Lightning sites out there is Raw Charge. Each week, they pose a question to different writers in the Bolts blogosphere and I’m lucky enough to be one of those bloggers from time to time.

This week’s question was: How do you want to celebrate the Lightning’s 20th anniversary?

A timely query to be sure. If there is a 2012-13 season, it will be the 20th since the Lightning started playing in the NHL. The team is probably already putting together an impressive string of special guests and pageantry.

Sure, it’s important remember heroes from our past. No doubt about that. It’s also important to remember some of the weirder moments of the franchise to preserve them for years past.

That’s why when asked how I want to celebrate the anniversary, I had a great idea.

Picture it. February 12th 2008. The Lightning are hosting the Montreal Candiels at the Forum.

After dropping to a line with Jan Hlavac and Michel Ouellet, Vaclav Prospal scores twice and tied his career-high in a season. Understandably, he was awarded the first star of the game.

Vinny wasn’t too pleased with his demotion, so he staged an attack on John Tortorella and the coaching staff during his post game interview:

To commemorate the size of his stones and one of the oddest/funniest memories in recent Lightning history, I would love to see them install a bronze plaque on the bench immortalizing the event for generations to come.
