It’s been a crazy two days for the Lightning. The news came yesterday that captain Vincent Lecavalier is out indefinitely with a broken right hand. This afternoon, Steve Downie was involved in a three team trade that sent him to the Colorado Avalanche. Trevor Smith and Mike Angelidis were called up from Norfolk.
Even with all of the madness, the Bolts keep playing well and keep winning. Tonight was their third straight victory. Steven Stamkos scored his league leading 41st and 42nd goals. He ended with a 3 point night.
Teddy Purcell scored the game winning goal and recorded 2 assists, tying a career high for points in one game.Purcell also has 10 points over his last 8 games.
Mathieu Garon was solid against a very dangerous line of Selanne, Ryan, and Perry. Garon was especially good in the third period where he faced 11 high quality scoring chances and turned them all aside. He ended the night with 28 saves.
Tampa did give up the puck in the zone which lead to two Anaheim goals, so there was some poor puck management. It wasn’t always pretty, but a win is a win. We’ll take it and see what tomorrow brings.
