In the days after the tragic plane crash that took the lives of every member of the KHL team Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the hockey community was reeling. It seemed as though every NHL team was affected and felt the loss. Hockey fans around the world were devastated and started building memorials to honor those who were lost on September 7th.
Out of one of the darkest moments in hockey history has come a movement aimed to help the grieving families left behind. Wives and girlfriends of hockey players in leagues around the world have joined together to raise money for the Lokomotiv families who have lost so much by selling bracelets at Love For Lokomotiv.
The movement has gained huge momentum with bracelets being sold at NHL games around the league through preseason and into the regular season. I’m bringing this up because it was announced that the bracelets will be available for purchase at the Lightning’s home opener on 10/17.
It’s going to be a landmark night for the team as they show off the renovated St. Pete Times Forum and play in front of their home fans for the first time. I am asking my fellow Lightning fans to make it special in another way: buy a bracelet and let’s help raise as much as we can to help our hockey family members. As soon as I get the specifics on where they will be sold, I’ll be sure to let you know.
If you can’t make the home opener, you can visit Love for Lokomotiv and make your purchase there. 100% of the proceeds are being put into a fund to aid the families.
Update: Per the Lightning’s official Twitter account, the bracelets will be for sale at Section 120.
