DKA: El Clasico And Samir Nasri’s Crazy Bet

We have a busy week of football coming up with matches on almost everyday of the week which means we have a lot of news to cover! Today we have some El Clasico scheduling issues, Shaun Derry’s red card appeal and Samir Nasri’s cocky bet with Piers Morgan. All in a days work and all in today’s DKA!

UEFA Champions League

Originally scheduled for April 22nd, El Clasico was moved to April 21st by RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation.) The reason? So Barcelona has a day to recover for their semi-final clash against Chelsea FC on April 24th for the second leg. Unfortunate for Chelsea, the FA refuses to give the Blues the same treatment, after asking to switch the date of the FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham the day before their first-leg match against Barca on April 18th. And here I thought that I might get to watch El Clasico, looks like I’ll be sneaking my laptop to work!

La Liga

Wednesday is the Madrid Derby (or El Derbi de Madrileño) between Atletico Madrid & Real Madrid. This match has a lot riding on the outcome. Atletico midfielder Juanfran claims that the match could be decisive for their city rival’s title hopes, should they fail to gain two points. With Real only 4 points ahead Barca (22 days ago they had a lovely 10-point lead,) every match is critical.

Everyone loves Spain, especially Carlos Vela. The Arsenal striker is currently on a loan to Real Sociedad which expires at the end of the season, but he’d rather stay then depart back to Emirates. Turns out, Vela loves the Spanish league more than the English:

“From my point of view, from a footballing and lifestyle standpoint it is better to stay in this league. I have a contract with an English team and if I have to return there I will adapt, but if I could stay here I would be happier.”

Here at Aerys Soccer, we’ve adapted a new platform for our La Liga coverage. It’s called  ’Late Night Liga’ where I share recaps, rumors, previews of the upcoming La Liga matches in case you couldn’t follow the matches. To read the first edition of LNL, click here!

Too bad for QPR’s Shaun Derry, whose appeal against his red card on Sunday was rejected by the FA. Derry was sent off at Old Trafford when he apparently fouled Ashley Young. In reality, Young tumbled dramatically when Derry barely made contact with the winger. Derry will miss this Wednesday’s match at home against Swansea.

Anybody remember Samir Nasri? Remember when he ditched Arsenal to go to Manchester City then publicly bashed Arsenal supporters? Well, looks like $amir Na$ri is up to something again. The frenchman made a £10,000 bet with a loyal & famous Gunners supporter via Twitter who just happens to be Piers Morgan. Of course, whoever loses has to donate the money to charity but it was this statement that started the whole thing:

“I’m aware what I said about titles,” Nasri said on Twitter. “I’m sure I will lift a trophy with Man City before AFC. And to all the Arsenal fans, move on. City are 10 points ahead of you. Just support your team and forget about me.”

Well, sorry Nasri, but it’s hard to forget someone when they move a club for loads of $ then trash talk the supporters, the people who adored you. Maybe you should be the one to ‘move on.’ Let’s hope for AFC fans that Piers wins this bet.

Daily Kick Around: Tuesday Edition

Just because it’s Tuesday doesn’t mean there’s a break from the footy headlines! Today’s DKA brings you more Mario Balotelli drama, Arsene Wenger vs Fans, Carlos Tevez’s only options and a possible reunion between two former Real Madrid captains. Enjoy!

La Liga

Yesterday the Spanish FA (RFEF) decided to take no action in regards to Real Madrid’s Pepe stepping on Lionel Messi’s hand last week during the Copa del Rey quarterfinal match at the Santiago Bernabéu. The Spanish press had a field day, calling Pepe “shameful” and “a disgrace to the club.” With no punishment being taken, Pepe is free to play against Barcelona tomorrow for the second leg. That if manager Jose Mourinho lets him.

English Premier League

Arsene Wenger, you’ve pissed off the fans again. Szczesny & Chamberlain backed-up their manager after numerous boos towards the French manager were received during Arsenal’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United. Wenger substituted Chamberlain, who was playing a fantastic match, for the unfit Andrei Arshavin in the second half. Not only were supporters shaking their heads at the decision, but so was Arsenal captain Robin van Persie. Uh-oh.

It’s never-ending drama at Manchester City, who is deciding whether to appeal yesterday’s four match ban to Mario Balotelli for an apparent stomp on Scott Parker.

Carlos Tevez is not heading to PSG. The french club has ended negotiations with Tevez after a disagreement of terms. Looks like Tevez’s only options are AC Milan and Inter, the only clubs still interested.

Serie A

AC Milan’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic was announced the Best Player in Serie A at the Oscar el Calcio awards last night. The awards are voted by Serie A players for the league’s best player, coach, club and referee from the previous season. Ibrahimovic was also voted Best Foreign Player. Congratulazioni!

Inter Milan’s Wesley Sneijder claims he is staying at San Siro after rumors that he might be heading to Old Trafford in the transfer window. “I am in good shape and I feel well,” Sneijder said. “The future? I stay at Inter, I feel good here. How much is left until the end of this transfer window? A week, no? I’m staying here.”

Bundesliga

Schalke 04 has dismissed rumors of the club picking up former Real Madrid player Guti. Spanish magazine AS reported that Guti was in talks with the club but Schalke director Horst Heldt says there is no truth to it. Guti played with Schalke striker Raul in Madrid and even left Real Madrid at the same time as Guti was making the move to Besiktas. His contract was terminated in November and he is now a free agent. All I have to say is, I would freak out if my two favorite Real Madrid captains ever played together. Excuse me while I go fangirl.

La Liga

Second ranked Barcelona faces Rayo Vallecano at 3pm ET which you can watch on ESPN3.com!

The RFEF announced yesterday that the abandoned match between Granada – Mallorca will be completed on December 7th after the match was cut short due to an injury to a linesman. The match will pick up where it left off, with Granada leading 2-1.

English Premier League

David Beckham, former Manchester United player, stated that the Red Devil’s crosstown rivals, Manchester City have ‘no chance’ in winning the Premier League Title this season, favoring his former club to lift the trophy. Beckham lifted his own trophy with his MLS club, the LA Galaxy this year, but could leave LA for the likes of AC Milan or Paris Saint-Germain in January when his contract expires.

Seems like a good time to pick at Manchester City this week. Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger,  have warned the Citizens to look out for Arsenal as they’ll try to knock them out of the League Cup. Wenger believes his club has ‘more experience and can step up during the match. Well this Gooner hopes you’re right Arsene.

Major League Soccer

Adios Los Angeles. Bienvenue a Montreal! Donovan Ricketts heads to Canada. Yes that’s right, the new club to enter the MLS circuit, the Montreal Impact, made an impact (no pun intended) when they picked up the Jamaican keeper who was acquired by the LA Galaxy before the ’09 season. Ricketts will leave the Galaxy with 77 appearances, making 226 saves, allowing 70 goals and sealing 27 shutouts in his three seasons with the club.

Seth Sinovic contemplated retiring at the ripe age of 24 had he been drafted to the Montreal Impact during the expansion draft. Lucky for him, he was drafted, but was traded back to his hometown (and club) Sporting Kansas City with allocation money in exchange for midfielder Davy Arnaud.

Serie A

Okay when I saw the video that AC Milan posted on their Facebook of Pato, Robinho and Thiago Silva singing, I knew I had to post it on here. Mostly because the song they’re singing has been stuck in my head for the past month. It’s called ‘Ai Se Eu Te Pego’ by Michel Telo. In Portuguese it means ‘If I’ll Get You There,” and it was made famous (well for me anyways) when Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo & Marcelo danced to it during a goal celebration in their match against Malaga. Excuse me while I go dance and sing this song now.

Spanish National Team

Vicente Del Bosque will resume as Spain’s coach through the 2014 World Cup campaign! Del Bosque’s contract was set to expire after Euro but RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) President Angel Villar convinced him to stay longer. HOORAY!

La Liga

Granada are awaiting their RFEF (Real Federacion Espanola de Futbol) verdict after their match against Mallorca was cancelled when  linesman Aguilar Rodriguez was struck by an umbrella thrown from the crowd, cutting his cheek. Granada had just scored a goal giving them the lead, making the match 2-1. It’s likely Granada could be fined, giving Mallorca the win.

English Premier League

It was a case of “Monday Night Football” when the Tottenham Hotspurs faced Aston Villa. Former Real Madrid player Emmanuel Adebayor scored the only goals of the match, giving the Spurs a 2-nil victory.

So where exactly has Carlos Tevez been? Well, he was winning golf tournaments in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Tevez, claimed as the Man City Rebel, has been MIA after being charged with misconduct in September when he refused to warm up during a Champions League match against Bayern Munich. Manager Robert Manchini offered Tevez an option to come back to the club if he apologized to the club and the players. Tevez refused and left for his homeland. When will this Tevez Saga end? Only time will tell.

“The Future of Arsenal” Jack Wilshere made a heavy bet with his twitter fans earlier today. The wager? If Arsenal-rivals Tottenham finish the season above the Gunners, Wilshere will donate £3,000 to a charity. Part of me wants Jack to donate to the charity of his choice, but the Gooner inside refuses to take part in this bet.

Serie A

Juventus striker Amauri is likely heading to England in January’s transfer window. Rumor has it that both Tottenham and Fulham are interested.

Major League Soccer

With the expansion draft coming up to kick off the entrance of the Montreal Impact into MLS, teams released the dreaded protected lists yesterday. According to MLS Expansion Draft rules, each of the 18 teams currently in MLS could protect “11 players between their On-budget and their Off-budget Roster.”

Bundesliga

The DFB (German Football Federation) stated that referee Babak Rafati was released from the hospital after his failed suicide attempt on Saturday. Rafati was found in his hotel room covered in blood hours before Saturday’s match between Cologne and Mainz. May all the wishes in the football community be sent to Rafati and his family. Stay strong!
