Daily Kick Around: Saturday Edition

Major League Soccer

The Montreal Impact released their new jerseys this week. I’ll tell you this, they’re definitely better than the Columbus Crew’s away kits.

Transfer news continues: Sporting Kansas City have brought in San Jose Earthquakes and former USMNT midfielder Bobby Convey, trading an international roster spot for 2012.

Could it be new USMNT Jurgen Klinsmann’s influence or something else? Whatever the case, MLS has not only changed the format of their 2012 season, but it will be starting earlier too.

La Liga

With some rumblings on the rumor market that Cristiano Ronaldo might want to leave Real Madrid, the vice president of Barcelona was quick to say the Catalan club would never sign Ronaldo, as they already have “the best in the world,” Lionel Messi.

Speaking of Barca, Cesc Fabregas is dismissing claims that his move from EPL’s Arsenal was “pre-planned” and that he never lost focus when at the English club.  ”Not for one moment [did I think of leaving], because I never knew what the future held,” Fabregas said. “I was an Arsenal player and under contract until 2014, so I wasn’t thinking of leaving.” Sure, Cesc. You keep telling yourself that.

Our thoughts go out to Atletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez who has been hospitalized with what doctors are diagnosing as ”acute gastroenteritis.” Tests are currently being done and treatment is being administered.

English Premier League

As we kick off another week of EPL games today, here’s a look at Week 14′s power standings.

Manchester City might be at the top of the league now, but Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe is confident that his team can win the championship this year. Tottenham are currently third in the league and Defoe feels they are a quality squad.

With the January transfer season fast approaching, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger said he won’t ruffles too many feathers unless a truly “fantastic player” comes along. Wenger feels his squad is already big enough.

Serie A

AC Milan took the top of the Serie A league after a win over Genoa recently. The win is the seventh the club have notched in the past eight games and puts them just one point above Juventus.

Lyon’s Michel Bastos was linked to Italian side Juventus this summer, but now it seems like he might be moving to the capital instead. Rumors have been linking Bastos with Roma after the club recently paid for the player’s trip to Rome.

U-17 Soccer

In a wild finish, the U.S. Men’s National Under-17 team notched a last minute stunner, defeating Turkey yesterday and moving the team to the top of the group of the 2011 Nike Friendlies tournament. The boys will now face Brazil in the final Sunday. Earlier this week, the U.S. team tied France in an equally exciting match.
