Happy Mother’s Day footy fans! I hope you all enjoyed Survival Sunday with all the insane soccer matches happening all over the globe. Today we celebrate champions in La Liga, EPL and Serie A! Enjoy today’s DKA!

La Liga

Today wraps up the 2011-2012 season in Spain with Real Madrid taking all the glory, winning their first title in 4 years! You can read my recap as well as the ending stats of the league here!

Also congratulations to Lionel Messi for winning the Pichichi Award with 50 goas scored in the regulare season.

Barcelona keeper Victor Valdes also was awarded the Zamora Trophy! Congrats!

English Premier League

Well, it looks like Manchester is bleeding blue tonight as Manchester City won their first title since 1968 when they beat QPR 3-2. Our own Teresa Munoz has the full recap here!

Last year’s champions Manchester United claimed the second spot in the standings when Wayne Rooney headed a goal giving United a 1-0 victory over Sunderland. You can read Trista’s post-match article here!

Let’s go back to September shall we? Who would have thought that Arsenal FC would finish this 2011-2012 campaign in third place. Yes, THIRD PLACE. I can’t count how many people doubted the Gunners but alas, Arsenal capture 3rd and a spot in Champions League. Toni Stone has the full recap of the match here!

Serie A

Juventus’ Alessandro Del Piero will leave in fashion after helping Juve seal their title after a 4-1 win over Atalanta. It’s the 28th Scudetto for Juve but the club still ah one match left before their season is finally over. Next weekend they host Napoli in the Coppa Italia Final.

Daily Kick Around: MLS Galore!

Hey footy fans! As today’s title suggests, we’re going to be looking at a LOT of MLS headlines today. From Brian Ching back in Texas, Carlos Bocanegra to Vancouver and a new sponsor for Columbus, plus USMNT news and a little fear in the EPL! Here’s your Daily Kick Around!

Major League Soccer

After the heartache for Houston fans at seeing their beloved Brian Ching snatched up by Montreal in the expansion draft, it seems the Dynamo are making amends. Sources are reporting today that Ching will be back in Houston after a deal is set between Montreal and the Dynamo. The Montreal Impact will get a conditional first-round 2013 Super Draft pick in exchange for Ching. But really, the deal also rested on Ching, who will probably have to take a salary cut to fit into the Dyanmo’s budget. It seems he’s a go for it, however, as he is expected to train with the Dynamo today.

Everyone is brushing up on their allocation knowledge as rumors swirl that USMNT captain of choice Carlos Bocanegra could move back to MLS and be snatched up by the Vancouver Whitecaps. The ‘Caps picked up Scottish international Barry Robson today, but coach Martin Rennie is saying the shopping isn’t done in Scotland as the club would like to pick up the U.S. defender as well. With the Glasgow Rangers recently going into administration and being docked 10 points, Boca could be looking for a move to get himself a championship trophy.

Another U.S. International is coming back from overseas. Former Kansas City and Dallas player Eddie Johnson has entered the allocation process and his new club will be named on Friday.

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero – the man who woke a little girl from a coma with his voice – may be coming to MLS. His agent is telling media he believes a move to America would be the best option for the Italian super star, whose contract with Juventus will come to a close at the end of the season. With several former European stars currently in MLS making such a great impact on teams, it could be a move everyone would be happy with.

Finally, it looks like the Columbus Crew have a new sponsor to add to their jerseys (you know, the ones we aren’t so sure are good looking). Barbasol joined the team yesterday, announcing a jersey sponsorship, complete with commercials. The jokes have already begun to filter in, but as a Crew fan, I’m excited about possible foam parties on the Nordecke.

U.S. Men’s National Team

There have been so many leaked jerseys, I have no clue what the USMNT will wear in the coming year. However, this latest one MIGHT be closer to the truth than others.  But really, we won’t know anything until it’s out officially. What do you guys think?

USMNT U-23 coach Caleb Porter named his roster for the upcoming camp and match with Mexico on Feb. 29. There are a total of 15 MLS players named and include Brek Shea, Freddy Adu, Juan Agudelo and Teal Bunbury.

English Premier League

With Scottish team Glasgow Rangers going into administration (bankruptcy basically), there is a little fear the same thing could start happening to English Premier League clubs who see red in their budgets. But the Premier League insists the same won’t happen to its teams and that everything is in tip-top shape… Time will only tell I suppose.

Europa League

After being knocked out of the UEFA Champions League, Manchester United has dropped down to the less-desirable Europa League. But since they’re there, why not try to win it all? They got off to an excellent start today, with a 2-0 win against AFC Ajax in the first game of their two-leg series. They head back to Old Trafford with an easy job: don’t lose.

For all the scores from today’s Europa League action–and there are a lot of games to digest–go here!

English Premier League

Despite apologizing for failing to shake Patrice Evra’s hand before Liverpool’s match against Manchester United on Saturday, Luis Suarez may have dug himself in one hole too many. Liverpool’s managing director, Ian Ayre, indicated that the club was “extremely disappointed” with Suarezʻs actions, and Sir Alex Ferguson called him a “disgrace,” saying that he should never be allowed to play for Liverpool again. The chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association went so far as to call his actions “disrespectful, inappropriate and embarrassing”. What do you think? Has Suarez done damage beyond repair, or should he be given another chance?

Manchester City regained the top spot in the league standings with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday. ESPNʻs Richard Jolly called Villa’s “a team bereft of ambition and invention,” claiming that the fans provided more entertainment than the home club:

One obliged by streaking and side-stepping his way past a series of stewards on a run that displayed far more pace and dynamism than most of McLeish’s players.

U.S. Women’s National Team

In case you missed it, the U.S. came back from being down 1-0 to bag two goals in the final five minutes, thanks to Alex Morgan, the new face of women’s soccer. All White Kit called it “Alex Morgan Time in America.”

There was some controversy as to whether the first goal actually crossed the line, but it appeared that NZL keeper Jenny Bindon was behind the goal line when she knocked it out. There was no doubt about the second, game-winning goal in the 94th minute.

La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo headed home a hat trick in Real Madrid’s 4-2 win over Levante, scoring the 4,000th goal at at the Santiago Bernabéu. Aerys’s Tamára Rinehart has the recap, along with awesome celebration gifs you won’t want to miss if youʻre a Madridista. Meanwhile, to the delight of Real Madrid fans, Barcelona continues to struggle, falling further behind in the standings.

Serie A

In the most amazing news of the weekend, a huge Juventus fan who suffered a brain hemmorage and fell into a coma just a few weeks ago was revived by the voice of Alessandro Del Piero. Fox Soccer has this incredible story you won’t want to miss.

 World Soccer

Congratulations to Zambia, winners of the African Cup with an 8-7 win in penalty kicks over the Ivory Coast. SI has the story on this “bittersweet” win in Libreville, the site of a Zambian military plane crash that killed 25 players in 1993.

Daily Kick Around: Tuesday Edition

 English Premier League

It’s all about the money! After 85 years of Manchester City losing in defeat to cross-town rivals Manchester United, City finally won 6-1. City has always been United’s poor counterpart, but this season City paid big bucks to bring in some heavy hitters with some help from Skeikh Mansour, who is causing quite the controversy in the EPL.

Arsenal’s Per Mertesacker claims that his side will finish in the Top 4 of the Premier League despite the Gunner’s rocky start to the season.

Round 4 of the Carling Cup starts today and ends tomorrow.  Today’s matches include Aldershot Town vs Manchester United; Bolton Wanderers vs Arsenal; Cardiff City vs Burnley; Crystal Palace vs Southampton.

Major League Soccer

Bolton Wanderers and former Houston Dynamo player Stu Holden heads to Houston to start his rehab after getting a pin taken out of his knee. Holden is expected to be out for another six months.

2011 MLS Playoffs are on a roll this week. Seattle face Real Salt Lake in the first leg of the Semifinals, which looks to be a challenge as RSL captain Kyle Beckerman returns after a three-match suspension.  Philadelphia Union face the Houston Dynamo while the LA Galaxy and Sporting KC are still awaiting their opponents due to two wild card matches happening over the weekend.

La Liga

Cesc Fabregas isn’t racist. The Barcelona midfielder denies via his twitter account the claims that he made racist comments after a run-in with Sevilla FC’s Federic Kanoute during Saturday’s draw. Kanoute accused Fabregas of calling him a terrorist. During Cesc’ twitter rant, he even confirmed that he is dating Daniela Semaan, a girl of Lebanese decent. Oh snap! Sorry gals, Cesc is taken!

Spanish National and Manchester City player David Silva has confirmed that he has rejected bids from both Barcelona and Real Madrid. But here’s the catch, he rejected the offers BEFORE he was signed to City.

Serie A

FC Sion chief, Christian Constantin, has his eyes set on Juventus player Alessandro Del Piero once his contract expires.

English Premier League

Javier Hernandez, aka Chicharito, has officially signed a contract extension with Manchester United through 2016.  After the result of yesterday’s Manchester Derby, news of the deal being signed is the bright spot of the week.

Major League Soccer

With the regular season officially over, the MLS playoff schedule has been set. Get the details, including TV scheduling and predictions here!

D.C. United forward Dwayne De Rosario has won the MLS Golden Boot award for the first time in his 11 year career, barely edging out San Jose Earthquakes strike Chris Wondolowski. Each had 16 goals, but De Rosario clinched the coveted award with his 12 assists.

The LA Galaxy lost to the Houston Dynamo in the final game of the regular season, playing a mostly reserve side, resting their starters for playoffs.  Among those reserves players was 16-year old Jack McBean, who scored his first ever MLS goal, the youngest Galaxy player to do so.

Serie A

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero’s contract is up at the end of the summer, and FC Sion president Christian Constantin has expressed his interest in signing the 37-year old player. Sion is sure to be one of many clubs going after Del Piero.

 Women’s Professional Soccer

New WPS CEO Jennifer Pogorelec O’Sullivan recently spoke about her vision for the 2012 season, including a potential expansion team in Connecticut and the Fox Soccer TV deal set to expire in a year.

La Liga

Cristiano Ronaldo scored this ridiculously amazing goal on Sunday in Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat of Malaga, completing his hat-trick. Come on Cris, a back heel flying kick? Let’s see you try to top that next week. Triple dog dare you!
