Ah it’s another late night edition of the Midweek Muscles, and we have now come to the Blonde Wonder of the U.S. Men’s National Team and the Bolton Wanderers. A midfielder unfortunately plagued with injury, but with a positive attitude that has gotten him support from all over the world. His hair even has its own Twitter account. I am, of course, talking about none other than Stuart Holden.
This 26-year-old midfielder was born in Scotland and grew up in Texas. A Texan boy at heart, he played for Clemson University for two years before he was picked up by Sunderland in the English Premier League. An unfortunate fight outside of a bar left him with a fractured eye socket, and THEN he picked up an ankle injury in training. Sunderland let him go, and he was picked up by his home team, the Houston Dynamo. In 2010, he made the move back to the EPL with the Bolton Wanders.
Stuart really has had bad luck, but it hasn’t dampened his fighting spirit. The US International is a favorite among fans for his dedication, care-free attitude and great skills on the pitch.
He may have grown up in Texas, but now that he’s back near his birthplace, you can still hear that nice little Scottish accent in his voice. Which of course only adds to his appeal. He’s also quite the comedian, as seen during his stint as a “reporter” for U.S. Soccer during World Cup 2010.
All in all, Stu is just one of those guys you can’t help but like, and he’s completely adorable. We know you’re on the road to recovery Stu, and we can’t wait to see you back on the pitch for Bolton and the USMNT!
