I was excited to get a chance to do GTKY day, because I had a player who caught my eye in early 2010 and since then has become my favorite MLS player (*gasp* everyone take a deep breath since we all know how much I love Becks…) Ladies and Gents, I introduce to you the one and only Mike Magee, a.k.a. the Bradley Coooper look-a-like!

Before coming to the LA Galaxy in 2009, Mike Magee was a member of the MetroStars, now known as the New York Red Bulls. He made 130 appearances and had 23 goals. Then, luckily for us LA Galaxy fans, he became a special part of the team. Not only can Magee play defense, score goals and look like Bradley Cooper, he also is a part-time goalkeeper.

It was the game against San Jose and both of LA’s goalkeepers ended up being injured, and getting a red card. Then when it looked like there was nowhere else to turn, Mike Magee saved the day once again. He became the goalkeeper, and did a pretty tremendous job at it! Even Josh Saunders was impressed. Thus started the revolution of #MikeMageeFacts. Where people on twitter would say things about Magee that was amazing. I got in on the fun and had the quote, “The Hulk asks for Mike Magee hands for Christmas.” and since then, everyone has become a Magee lover! (and I do not blame them.)

Magee was a driving force behind LA Galaxy’s Championship run this season. There is one word that I can use that ultimately describe Magee it would be “clutch.” This season he was just that for the Galaxy. Every time it looked like LA was out of the game Magee would be subbed in and have a huge impact to get LA back in the game. He made great plays and had a heck of a year.
