News broke earlier today that David Beckham wouldn’t be returning to LA Galaxy after the MLS Cup. He’s the one who turned me onto MLS, before him I didn’t know it even existed. I saw my first LA game in 2009 at RFK Stadium, and after a seven hour road trip, and sitting in a sea of DCU fans.. Beckham waved at me and made everything that much better. On December 1st, LA Galaxy will say goodbye to a legend… So I figured it would only be fitting to go through some of Beckham’s moments since gracing us all with his presence in 2007.
Even though things were rocky between Landon Donovan and Becks… It all eventually worked out, and MLS got to see the greatest midfield-forward hook up in quite some time.
Then we come to the time where after 4 years, and no MLS Cup people wanted Becks out of LA. He had missed a ton of games and the fans weren’t having any of it… but Becks didn’t let that get to him and finally during the final year of his contract he helped LA book a ticket to the MLS Cup.
That was the moment every LA fan had hoped for since Becks’ arrival in 2007, and now they had it… and it was a sweet, sweet taste of victory.
Now here we are, the end of an era. After the MLS Cup on Sunday Dec. 1st David Beckham will no longer wear the LA Galaxy jersey… but he will forever be a Galaxy player…. And hopefully a two time MLS Cup Champion.
Personally, without Becks I wouldn’t have even watched the MLS as early as I did.. Sure after high school I would have caught on, but because of him I am now a lover of all things MLS. Everyone loves Becks; his miraculous free kicks, his shirtless pictures and the love he has for the beautiful game. He’ll be missed by all the Galaxy fans, and players. The passion he shows on the field will never be duplicated. So, thank you Beckham. Thank you.
I’ll leave you with two things, Beckham’s greatest goals as a Galaxy player… and to lighten the mood; his H&M ad that we all love.
Don’t be sad that it’s over, smile because it happened.
