Ahh, Friday the 13th. For some it’s the unluckiest day of the year. Shattered mirrors. Black cats. Cracks in the sidewalk. It’s all a myth, right? For others, it’s the luckiest day. Well, consider yourself lucky because we have all the latest and greatest news in the footy world in this very special edition of the Daily Kick Around.

Every Wednesday we bring you our “Midweek Muscles” feature, highlighting soccer players who are easy on the eyes. Today we bring you the exact opposite, as Bleacher Report has compiled a list of 13 Footballers Who’d Be Great in Horror Movies: Friday 13th Special. Yeesh! I might not sleep tonight.

The Fluffington Post, my go-to source for everything going on in the feline kingdom, usually shares photos of kittens, bunnies, puppies and the like that make you go “Awww!” So I was surprised as anyone to see FluffPo break a huge story this morning about a top U.K. footballer making the move to the U.S., as the newest starting forward for the Chicago Fire. Chicago will never be the same.
Women’s Professional Soccer
In actual serious soccer news, WPS, which just a month ago was on the verge of not even existing in 2012, held their first-year player draft today. All White Kit‘s Chris Henderson has a full list of each player drafted, with pick-by-pick analysis. Not surprisingly, three of the top ten came from the 2011 College Cup Champions, Stanford, two of whom are going to defending league champions, Western New York Flash. With Taylor and Noyola, the Flash look like they’ll be a force to be reckoned with for a long time. Look for more of my thoughts on the draft tomorrow. Top Ten include:
1. Atlanta Beat – Sydney Leroux, F – UCLA
2. Sky Blue FC – Melissa Henderson, F – University of Notre Dame (Go Irish!)
3. Boston Breakers – Stephanie Ochs, F – University of San Diego
4. Sky Blue FC – Camille Levin, D – Stanford University
5. Philadelphia Independence – Sarah Hagen, F – University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
6. Western New York Flash – Lindsay Taylor, F – Stanford University
7. Western New York Flash – Teresa Noyola, M – Stanford University
8. Western New York Flash – Tori Huster, M – Florida State University
9. Sky Blue FC – Ingrid Wells, M – Georgetown University
10. Atlanta Beat – Katy Frierson, M – Auburn University
