Day two of the Round of 16 for Copa del Rey was only two matches.
Barcelona played Osasuna at the Nou Camp today, with a final score of 4-nil.
Barca star Lionel Messi was expected to be absent in today’s fixture due to a pending flu, however the Argentinean managed to play, scoring two late goals.
Former Arsenal FC captain, Cesc Fabregas took an early start by scoring the first goal in the 13th minute, only to double the score five minutes later, putting the Catalans up 2-nil.
Osasuna look scattered on the pitch, proving that Barca is a dominant force offensively, playing a magnificent passing game. Victor Valdes, Barcelona goalkeeper, was out today with the flu, but is expected to play on Sunday’s La Liga match against Espanyol for the Catalan Derby.
Lionel Messi finished Osasuna with two goals, one in the 72nd minute, and in stoppage time at the 90 +1′ sealing the victory for Pep Guardiola’s men.
Barcelona head to Osasuna for the second leg of Round of 16 on January 12th.
Real Sociedad brought home a victory after beating Mallorca 2-nil at Anoeta stadium with a crowd of 23,000.
A pretty dull match for both clubs, however Sociedad managed to score two goals; Aranburu at the 17th minute and Agirrexte in the 55th.
Mallorca will play Sociedad at home on January 10th.
