The Vikings failed to impress in the third preseason game, which is claimed to be the dress rehearsal of the regular season.  On Friday night, the Vikings fell to the San Diego Chargers, who sat some of their starters including QB Phillip Rivers.

The Vikings first team offense failed to get anything going on offense.  All they managed to do in two plus quarters of action was a single field goal.  When likely third string QB Sage Rosenfels entered the game in the fourth quarter, he and the offense marched down the field and scored a touchdown to put the Vikings ahead 10 to 9.

Former Vikings LB Ben Leber Retires

LB Ben Leber, who spent  the 2011 season with the St. Louis Rams, announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday during a radio appearance on Minnesota’s KFAN.

“I came to the conclusion that I’m happy where I’m at in my life mentally, physically, emotionally that I think it’s a good time to walk away from the game,” said Leber.

Leber, a 10 year vet in the league, spent half  (2006-2010) of his career with the Minnesota Vikings.  He was drafted in 2002 by the San Diego Chargers.

He ends his career with 498 total tackles, 24 sacks and five interceptions.

“I’m happy and proud of the career I’ve had.  For a kid coming out of South Dakota that never had NFL on his mind,” he said. “Looking back I’m extreamly lucky and blessed.”
