Those were Jair Jurrgens sentiments after notching his 10th win of the season in just 14 starts. The luck Jurrgens received Saturday was two fold. First of all, in multiple innings, he had two runners on base, no outs, but still escaped unscathed. The only run surrendered came of a first pitch home run to Alberto Gonzalez in the third inning. Jair’s second stroke of luck came from Atlanta’s offense. In a day that saw the Brave’s fan base calling for Larry Parrish’s job (and Dan Uggla’s head) after an 11-2 loss, Atlanta responded with 10 runs off 12 hits. This offensive charge was lead by none other than Dan Uggla. While Jurrgens’ run support may have been lucky considering the anemic offense, his ability to work out of jams is more proof just how good he is. Starting the season on the DL with the injury of the year, a strained oblique, JJ has been surprisingly dominate. Jurrgens is the first National League pitcher to 10 wins, and leads the league with the lowest ERA of 2.32. All this from the guy who was considered by many to be the weakest link in the rotation.
Offensively, the Braves have shown glimpses as of late of what the bats are capable of. Which is one reason why I personally blasted the Braves fan base yesterday via Twitter. “#Braves “fans”:you have the 2nd best rec, stop w/ the constant complaining & learn the game. You act like your team is playing like the #Cubs.” Yes, that comment angered some enough to stop following me, but I stand by it 100%.
If you have been watching the team, and knowe what you are looking for, you would have noticed that Dan Uggla was getting his timing back a little at a time and was becoming more patient. You may have also noticed that two integral pieces of the offense, Jason Heyward and Nate McLouth, are a week removed from the disabled list, and another, Martin Prado, remains on the DL with a staff infection. Let us not forget that the Braves have the second best record in the National League.
In a situation where the entire team has really yet to play together, it is difficult to say if Atlanta will make a trade deadline move or not. That is a story for another day! Atlanta goes for the season win over the Padres at 4:05 EST today before jumping back into interleague play with the Mariners.
