A last-second field goal by Saints kicker Shayne Graham lifted the New Orleans over the Philadelphia Eagles, 26-24, in Saturday’s wild-card matchup.
I’ve been a little bitter this week that the Saints seemingly squandered their early lead in the NFC South and Dome field advantage. I know the Saints’ history with playoff wins on the road. The Saints were 0-for-5. I’ve been hearing it all week, along with how poorly Dome teams play in the cold.
But, pooh-pooh to all that now.
Drew Brees threw for 250 yards and a TD. There were two INTs in the first half, but Brees shook those off with a little halftime voodoo. Lance Moore was on the receiving end of Brees’ 24-yard TD. Mark Ingram was the Saints leading rusher with 97 yards and a TD. That’s right. Ingram–97 yards and a TD.
And Shane Graham, signed to the Saints only two weeks ago, was good on all four of his field goal attempts, including the game winner.
The Saints now face the top-seeded Seattle Seahawks in next week’s divisional playoff game. I’m prepared to hear all about how the Seahawks destroyed the Saints during the regular season, how the Seahawks stunned the Saints during the playoffs three years ago, and about how loud the Seawhawks’ stadium is. My head knows this will be a hard one for New Orleans to win, but my heart…not so much.
