Yankees News and Notes: 2/9/12

Good morning Yankee fans. It’s Thursday February 9, 2012 and here are some links to get your day started – I apologize for the tardiness, I woke up late.

The Yankees signed Russell Branyan to a minor league deal. Good, I’m sick of him hitting monster home runs against us. Maybe he can hit one for us instead.

Oy, can you imagine John Sterling having to come up with a second home run call for a guy named Russell? Or will he try to rhyme Branyan with Canyon? I’m a little afraid to find out.

Keith Law ranked the Yankees’ farm system tenth in the league, down one slot from last season. I’d link the article but I’m not an ESPN insider and can’t even read it myself. So I’ll link you to River Avenue Blues instead.

Michael Kay Makes Me Want To Punch My Own Face

OH MY GOD SHUT UP!

[Personal note: My Aerys Sports name twin who spells Stacey wrong and who roots for the wrong team - Stacy Johnson, a writer for Aerys's Red Sox site Fenway Fatales - wrote a post about how much she misses NESN broadcasters Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy this offseason. (Oh I'm kidding. She actually spells her name correctly. I am the one who has the extraneous 'e' in my name but she does root for the wrong team. Now, Red Sox fan Stacy does have a Yankee fan husband so she can't be that bad.) Anyway, Stacy's post got me thinking about the YES broadcasting crew: who I like, who I don't like and who I wish would get permanent laryngitis - okay that's a tad harsh. I wouldn't wish that on anyone.]

Out of all of the people on the YES Network, the one I miss the least this offseason is Michael Kay. I think March through October is more than enough time to deal with him and his schtick. He is just getting to be too much for me.
