Jeff Nelson 2, Tigers 1, Yankees 0: Really?

People joked before today’s game that it couldn’t possibly be worse than last night’s game. It may not have been worse in regards to injuries – the Yankees didn’t lose anyone to a fracture of any kind – but man, this was a shitty game.

The anemic offense reared its ugly head once again and poor Hiroki Kuroda, who pitched resplendently and on three days rest for the first time in his career, was saddled with the loss.

I’m not going to make this a long recap because I cannot bring myself to actually recap the awfulness.

The highlight of the game was Kuroda’s performance. He started it off by striking the first six out of seven batters he faced and had a no hitter going until the sixth inning when Jhonny Peralta singled. Kuroda retired the next three batters to end the inning.

In the top of the eighth inning and with two outs, umpire Jeff Nelson blew a call that ended up costing the Yankees two runs.

And yes, I’m going to hear, “Well, it doesn’t matter because the Yankees were shut out.” Enough of that horseshit. Major League umpires need to be held accountable for their mistakes. The call Nelson blew was egregiously bad. Everyone watching the game, even Tigers fans, couldn’t believe he made the call.

There was another awful call in last night’s game that cost the Yankees a run early in the game. If that call went the Yankees’s way they’d've tied the game and the big ninth inning could have been become a walk-off instead of a tie.

Of course today the Yankees couldn’t get anything going against Annibal Sanchez and the usual suspects, Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher were the main culprits.

I’m not even including Alex Rodriguez because at least he got a hit. Oh, I’m sorry Swisher got a hit, my bad.

The worst part is that Granderson, Cano and Swisher are not only horrible at the plate but their defense is beginning to suffer as well. A-Rod for his part is at least playing pretty solid defense.

What the hell happened to this team? I joked earlier that someone made a Yankee player voodoo doll because they are not this bad. They’re playing like they’re the Houston Astros or Chicago Cubs. It’s very embarrassing to watch.

Thank goodness for the off day tomorrow. We all need one.
