The Saints won against the Falcons for the second time this season–this time winning on Thursday Night Football, 17-13.
Saints QB Drew Brees was 23/33 for 278 yards and two TDs. Both touchdowns came in the first half of the game. TE Jimmy Graham scored on a 44-yard pass from Brees. Brees’ other TD was a one-yard throw to TE Benjamin Watson. Hey–why should Graham have all the fun?! A field goal by Garrett Hartley in the third quarter was the only points put on the board by either team after the half. Our kicker has his mojo back!
Graham was the Saints’ leading receiver with 100 yards and a TD. His customary dunk over the goal post seemed a little lower than usual. Graham bent the post a bit, causing a field crew to check that the post was straight before Hartley could kick the PAT.
Saints RB Pierre Thomas had a good all-around effort. Thomas rushed for 73 yards and was the Saints second leading receiver with 57 yards.
Atlanta QB Matt Ryan was 30/39 for 292 yards. WR Harry Douglas was the Falcons leading receiver with 49 yards. Steven Jackson was the Falcons leading rusher with 63 yards and a TD.
The Falcons added to their score with two FGs made by Matt Bryant in the first half. Late in the fourth quarter, the Saints successfully iced the kicker, calling a time out just before Bryant sent a ball through the posts. After the time out, Bryant’s attempt was no good.
With this win, the Saints improve to 9-2. The Saints will rest up before facing the Seattle Seahawks on Monday Night Football on December 2. That should be an exciting match up. The Saints are second only to the Seahawks in the NFC.
