Well Then…: Blackhawks 2, Edmonton 9

Blackhawks fall to Edmonton 9-2.

I just can’t…it’s a good thing I wasn’t able to live blog because the amount of profanity out of my mouth was staggering.

What can I say about this game? Everything about it made me angry. Particularly, after the Oiler’s 2nd goal in the 1st, they decided to do a close up on Emery’s face and he just looked confused and dumbfounded. Ugh, your 5 hole, Emery…you need to close your legs like you have a secret (or at least like you want to protect the net).

I can’t be mad at Duncan Keith, who after hitting Taylor Hall into the boards was a sweetheart and asked Hall if he was ok. D’awww.

There isn’t much about this game that made me happy so this is going to be abrupt: I was seriously disappointed. They stopped skating and trying to come back. The Oilers came into the game looking to stop their losing streak and they did so with gusto. I don’t think the Hawks were prepared for that and it cost them.

Captain Force of Nature Watch: No goals for Captain Serious last night. So, boo.

Duncan Keith Plus/Minus Watch: -6. He gets a +1 for being a concerned human being though.

Post-game Notes via nhl.com:

Taylor Hall, EDM: “It definitely gives us confidence. It’s great we won all three periods. It’s easy to let off the gas pedal, but we didn’t.”

Coach Tom Renney, EDM: “This was a big game for us under the circumstances. Chicago is a good hockey club. I’m not sure you are going to see something like this happen to them again this season.”

Jonathan Toews, CHI: “We are all embarrassed, at the same time we are going to stick together and remain a team and not point the finger at any one guy or another. We are going to have to find a way to move on. We know our effort has to be way better. The way we played these last two nights was completely unacceptable.”

DISCUSSION: One Response

The first game I was awake for at 4 am and I get that first period. Glad I went back to bed at 5 am.
Hopefully they got the majority of the suck out for the rest of the season.
As much as the Oilers are exciting to watch, I’d prefer not to see them do this against the Hawks.
Thank goodness it wasn’t the Canucks at least.
