Last time on Blackhawks History, the Black Hawks had won the Stanley Cup in 1938. After dropping to the bottom of the league in the 1938-39 season, the team returned to the playoffs. How would the team fare once the United States entered World War II?

Let’s continue on…

Old-Timey Blackhawks History: 1926-1931

Blackhawks History Links

In 86 years, we’ve had 15 US presidents, a World War, the Cold War, the Space Race, the fall of communism, and Billy Joel recounting most of this in “We Didn’t Start The Fire.”

And, in Chicago, one NHL team.

For the next few weeks, I will be presenting five years of Blackhawks history at a time.

Why?

I’ve noticed that there are quite a few Blackhawks fans out there who don’t know the history of the team. I’d like to teach those people out there about all the important, interesting things they might not know about the ‘Hawks.

Plus, I am a huge history nerd, and I need something to do to take my mind off of the CBA deadline.

So, let’s get this thing started!

Oduya Like That Scott Is Gone?

Is this the last time I get to use this picture? I am sad! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Well, this trade deadline was relatively uneventful.

The Blackhawks were in need of a second-line center going into this trade deadline, but it seems as if there were none to be found for cheap. So, instead, they acquired defenseman Johnny Oduya from the Winnipeg Jets for their second and third-round draft picks in 2013. This gets a big ol’ shrug from me. Those picks probably will not be as valuable in two years if the organizational depth continues to grow, so we got a guy who can eat up some defensive minutes for relatively cheap. Again, shrug.

The (literally) bigger news is that someone took John Scott for more than a bag of pucks. The Blackhawks somehow managed to convince the New York Rangers to take him for a fifth-round pick in 2012. Scott was a great guy off the ice, but let’s be real: he has a 6:56 average TOI and has played in 29 games so far this year. He talked to the Chicago Tribune about his trade today:

“It’s surprising to say the least,” Scott said. “I thought I’d be the last person to get traded. I’m excited to go to New York but also sad to leave Chicago. I had a good couple of years here. It’s bittersweet, I guess.

“It came as a shock to me and to my agent and everybody. I don’t really see myself as a deadline-deal guy you try to go out and get, but I guess I am. It’s shocking.”

While Scott wasn’t much of an asset on the ice, he will be missed for being a funny dude off the ice, as well as his asskicking ways. This is what you’ll be getting, Rangers fans…

It’s Been So Long!: Blackhawks 4, Rangers 2

Well, shoot.

I should’ve begged the Hockey Gods for a win earlier.

I’m so happy, I’m not even going to pick on the power play tonight. I’m just going to sit here and enjoy this win.

It’s been a long time coming.

Warmups: Run This Town

The power of Toews compels you! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Tonight, I’m forgoing the usual warmups post to beg the Hockey Gods to help the Blackhawks win tonight against the best team in the league right now, the New York Rangers.

Please? I’ll go, like, sacrifice a puck or something, if that’s what you want. I can’t take another night of people making dumbass trade proposals after a loss. Now people want to trade Marian Hossa. These people are morons, Hockey Gods, and people keep indulging their stupidity. Hockey Gods, it’s not funny anymore. I just want people to shut up and be happy for one night, okay?

Even though the last game didn’t have the outcome everyone wanted, it was a marked improvement in play from what we’ve seen in the past three weeks. Hopefully, the Blackhawks will build on this tonight.

Corey Crawford is back for the Blackhawks. Martin Biron is in net for the Rangers.

Just do this, Blackhawks. And may the puck bounces be ever in your favor.

Ten Blackhawks Games You Have To See Live

It's so close! (Photo: Jed Sullivan/flickr)

Tomorrow at 10am, Blackhawks regular-season tickets will go on sale via Ticketmaster, and, trust me — it will be a mad scramble. But what games will give you the most bang out of your 45 bucks (at least)? I’ve decided to help you out with the ten game tickets you should try to get your hands on tomorrow, given here in chronological order.

(You may find that this list is Eastern Conference-heavy — but this is because this will be the only chance to see these teams in the United Center this year. If you want to complain, blame Bettman.)

Blackhawks Will Be On National TV 13 Times; Bill Wirtz Keeps Spinning In His Grave.

The second-best thing to being here? (Photo: Cheryl Adams/flickr)

If you can’t catch the Blackhawks on CSN Chicago or WGN, and you don’t have Center Ice, don’t fret — you’ll still have a lot of opportunities to catch the Blackhawks on national TV. They will be exclusively on NBC or Versus (which will be re-branded as NBC Sports Network on Jan. 2) 12 times, while one game will be aired both on NBC Sports Network and CSN Chicago. The Blackhawks will also be on the NHL Network six times this season.

After the jump, check out the national TV schedule and plan your life accordingly. All times are CT.
