The Quiet Room: We Had A Lot Of Feelings This Week

Until we get a logo, you get a picture of Patrick Sharp. (Photo: David Kindler/flickr)

This week’s The Quiet Room with Casey and Kat is our longest one yet (over an hour!), since we had a lot of feelings on last week’s games. Topics include:

  • Last week’s Chicago Blackhawks games against the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and Los Angeles Kings
  • Other games around the NHL, including the San Jose Sharks/Columbus Blue Jackets game (hahaha)
  • Broadcast teams around the league, and why Chicago is spoiled in that regard despite our snark on Pat Foley and Eddie Olczyk
  • Why Brandon Bollig is useless (this seems to be a recurring theme)
  • This week’s Line Cocktail, which is illegal in most states
  • This week’s question: Do you think that coaches discourage staged fights during nationally televised games? Why or why not?
  • Alternate question: This podcast needs a new name, since The Quiet Room is already in use by another podcast. Give us a new name.

Click the green button below to listen. Hopefully, the sound quality will improve by next week.

Fresh Brew: Getting The Band Back Together For Charity

Photo: @RMHCCHI/Twitter

It’s Chicago versus The World, and it’s all for charity.

Members of the 2010 Stanley Cup-winning Blackhawks team — including Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Adam Burish, and Brian Campbell — will be taking on various other hockey stars in “Champs for Charity” at Allstate Arena. This exhibition game will take place on October 26 at 7:30pm  and will benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Streeterville.

To get your tickets, go here. For a list of who will be there, check it out after the jump.

Eddie Olczyk Inducted Into The U.S. Hall Of Fame

So today we got a whiff on Twitter that some news regarding Big Edzo were on the way from, well, Little Edzo:

Fresh Brew: Edzo Not Happy Kane Didn’t Go To Worlds

(Photo: Kris Krug/flickr)

Eddie Olczyk is not happy that Patrick Kane didn’t go represent the USA in Worlds:

“I don’t know if (it’s) Patrick Kane being hurt, but this is the prioritizing or lack thereof to me as an alum of Team USA,” Olczyk said, “These World Championships were really important for the seedlings going into the Olympics.”

“I was very disappointed that he didn’t go and represent our country and try to help us get a better seed come Olympic time, but maybe there (are) some things that I don’t know behind the scenes.” (CBS Chicago)

Listen, Edzo, Kane had some very important drinking to do, okay? Don’t hate.

Good news, everyone! Since the Coyotes have been bounced from the playoffs, Raffi Torres is suspended for 12 games for next year for his hit on Marian Hossa. Excellent. (SB Nation Chicago)

Speaking of the Coyotes, Second City Hockey‘s eulogy for the desert dogs on Puck Daddy is pretty much flawless. My favorite part was this:

We no longer will be treated to the uneasy sight of a state with the harshest immigration policies having a “white-out.”

Brandon Bollig will be chatting tomorrow on Spreecast at 8pm ET/7pm CT. You can check it out here, or (hopefully) on ROD, depending on if the workaround for the embedding actually works.

Live Blog: Blackhawks @ Phoenix Coyotes Game 1

Welcome to the live blog of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Quarterfinals between the Blackhawks and the Phoenix Coyotes.

I’m doing this because it will keep me from passing out during the game. I hope.

Newest comments are at the top.

12:00 AM Martin Hanzal wins the game for the Coyotes 3-2. The Coyotes lead the series 1-0. And now, bedtime for me. Hope you enjoyed this live blog despite the outcome.

Your Daily Cup: A Very Handsome… Appendix?

Get well soon, Sharp! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Patrick Sharp had an emergency appendectomy tonight. Here’s the press release from the Blackhawks Head Team Physician Dr. Michael Terry:

“Patrick Sharp underwent an emergent surgical appendectomy this evening after experiencing some abnormal abdominal discomfort. The surgery was successful and I anticipate a full recovery in approximately three to four weeks.”

Three to four weeks… why, that goes through all of training camp, preseason, and hits right up against the Blackhawks’ season opener! Sharp, your appendix has the worst timing ever. Get better soon, sir.

Well, even if Sharp can’t be at the Training Camp Festival this Saturday, at least he’ll be there in spirit — the Blackhawks are giving out Sharp bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans.

The 4th Annual Blackhawks Convention Preview

White And Nerdy himself welcomes you.

The 4th Annual Blackhawks Convention starts tomorrow at the Hilton Chicago (720 S. Michigan)! Hope you’ve already got your ticket, because it’s been sold out for months. While this year will probably not be as crazy as last year (how could anything compete with the allure of the Stanley Cup?), the convention is still always full of good times, embarrassing stories, and other things that appeal to the hardcore Blackhawks fan.

And, like I’ve been for the past two years, I will be there, reporting on all of it. I hope. If I can fight with the hotel’s crummy wi-fi. God, I hate their wi-fi.

Anyway! After the jump is the schedule that has been released so far, as well as the list of Blackhawks attendees, along with a couple of surprises…

All times listed are CT. The schedule is put together using the following links:
