The NHL announced that Daniel Carcillo will be suspended for seven games for this hit on the Edmonton Oilers’ Tom Gilbert on January 2:
According to Brendan Shanahan, the vice-president of Player Safety and Hockey Operations, the onus was on Carcillo to avoid or minimize contact. For the entire explanation of the suspension, click here.
Carcillo, you dumbass. Oh well. It’s not like you were going to return to the ice any time soon, anyway, seeing as how you’re injured and all.
By the way, Carcillo’s suspension doesn’t start until he’s ready to return to the ice. Seeing as how it could be weeks or months until he comes back, depending on the injury, he might not see ice time until next season. Whether or not he’ll still be in a Blackhawks uniform by then remains to be seen.
At least he has the support of his former Flyers homeboy, Mike Richards:

I’m seriously starting to wonder now if it was worth trading for him after all. I tried to be on the positive side after an initial “OH NO YOU DIDN’T!” sentiment, but it seems he’s out/suspended so much lately that we are hardly seeing him on the ice at all. No bang for the buck. It makes me a sad panda.
