The IceHogs announced today that the team has re-signed veteran Wade Brookbank to a one year AHL contract.

Brookbank skated in seventeen games for the Hogs in 2011-12. He joined the team on a professional try-out deal in early February and made his first appearance of the season on February 17th against Toronto after coming out of retirement. The Lanigan, Saskatchewan native tallied five points (1G, 4A) in those seventeen contests as well as a plus/minus rating of +3 and 44 penalty minutes. The 34-year-old’s lone goal of the season came on March 25th in Milwaukee and was his third in an IceHogs sweater, including when he spent the 2010-11 season with the team.

Brookbank is a defenseman, but spent most of his time in Rockford as a winger; all of his games in 2011-12 he spent playing the wing. The Blackhawks signed his younger brother, Sheldon, on July 1st. He was previously with the Anaheim Ducks.

The 6-foot-4, 225 pound defenseman-turned-winger will provide veteran presence in his third season with the team in what will be another young dressing room.
