About Runs On Duncan

Runs On Duncan strives to bring you the latest news about the Chicago Blackhawks and other hockey teams in the Chicagoland area with wit and humor. Occasionally, they actually achieve this.

Runs On Duncan covers not only the Blackhawks, but also the following teams:

  • Rockford IceHogs (AHL affiliate of the Blackhawks)
  • Chicago Wolves (AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks)
  • Chicago Express (ECHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Chicago Steel (USHL)

For our Canadian readers (and any other readers outside of the US), the title of this site is a pun on the Dunkin’ Donuts slogan, “America Runs On Dunkin’.”

Via Dunkin' Donuts

(We include this because we’ve had a couple of Canadian readers tell us that they didn’t know this was a pun on something until they were watching US streams of hockey games.)

About Kat

Kat is the senior Blackhawks reporter for Runs on Duncan. She is a robot dinosaur wrangler by day and Batgirl by night. Somehow, she still finds the time to write about/make fun of her favorite hockey team, the Chicago Blackhawks, which is why she got this Aerys Sports gig. She graduated from Chuck Norris University with a degree in Awesome. When she isn’t wrangling robot dinosaurs, she is creating macros and GIFs of her favorite hockey team to mock them, because they are so mockable. She also does not think that anyone reads “About” pages very often, which is why she is filling her section of the page with blatant lies, but she enjoys writing about herself in the third person.

About Hannah

Hannah is a Chicago Blackhawks and prospects reporter for Runs on Duncan. She never planned on writing about the Blackhawks but signed a contract in blood to be Kat’s minion. Outside of her minion duties of making coffee & fetching slippers and the newspaper for Kat, Hannah manages to be a full time college student majoring in Sport Management who aspires work in Community Relations. Hannah picked up the game in that hotbed of hockey, Washington, at the ripe age of 12 by watching the WHL. She subsequently fell in love with hockey and the WHL. She hated her first-ever hockey game between the Moose Jaw Warriors and Seattle Thunderbirds at the age of 6 because she didn’t understand why they were fighting so much.

Hannah admits to being a bandwagon fan of the Blackhawks and knowing nothing about hockey because she’s never played. She has, however, driven nine hours from Boston to Philly in hurricane-like conditions to see her only Blackhawks game in person — in which she missed the 1st period and walked through said hurricane to the arena, getting soaked. The Blackhawks managed to lose the game with three seconds left in the 3rd (after being up 2-1!) on goals from Hartnell & Pronger. Hannah demanded the Cup from the Blackhawks when leaving the arena and was awarded it on June 9, 2010 as an apology.

Previously, she was a Canucks and Penguins fan until she saw the light; she blames the error of her ways on being young and naive. Her birthday is celebrated on the day the NHL resolved the 04-05 lockout.

About Leiram

Leiram is is the AHL Reporter, prospects cheerleader, and article translator for Runs on Duncan. She also serves as pun police for Kat–when she’s not committing some terrible infractions herself, that is. A student at recent graduate from Loyola University Chicago, Leiram is hoping to work as a teacher so she can raise funds to support her hockey habit. When she’s not angsting over the fates of the Hawks, Bruins, Pens, and Kings, she’s hyperventilating over the Heat, Wolves, and IceHogs of the AHL. She does non-hockey things too, but they’re mostly very nerdy and therefore not particularly exciting. (Can you tell she likes words?) If you’re wondering how a Puerto Rican likes hockey, her response will be the same as she always says: “Blame Kat.” There’s no one to blame for her defection during international play, though. The love for Team Canada and Tre Kronor is aaaall her fault.

Leiram hates talking about herself but enjoys telling all her hockey stories, so feel free to contact her via email or Twitter. If she takes a bit to respond, she’s likely correcting rumors about her tattoo being Jonathan Toews’ on Tumblr.

About Tisha

Tisha has been a nerd since before the reign of the dinosaurs, possibly even before our planet possessed an oxygen-rich atmosphere. She obtained a largely useless degree from a moderately hoity-toity college, and thus works with computers. In her spare time, she enjoys road rage, watching hockey and football, and spacing out. Her favorite color is grey, and you are invited to bite her if you think that’s a boring choice. She has a love-hate relationship with numbers, and a hate-hate relationship with many other things. She is extremely uncomfortable writing about herself in the third person, because it makes her feel like Jimmy from “Seinfeld”. Tisha’s not threatened by Hank’s sexuality. Tisha’s happy for Hank.

So why “Runs On Duncan”?

Because Kat enjoys puns — the dumber, the better. But it’s also true — the Chicago Blackhawks “run on Duncan” moreso than probably anyone else on the team. Check out these stats:

In 44 wins in the 2010-2011 season, Duncan Keith was a +29. He registered minus ratings in only six of those games. However, in 38 losses, he was a -30 and registered minus ratings for 23 of those games.

As Duncan Keith goes, so go the rest of the Blackhawks. More or less.
